Aroma: Decent malt aroma.
Appearance: Pours a nice dark brown color with a thick 3 finger head.
Flavor: Malt-like character, slightly bitter with a bit of caramel maybe?
Palate: A roasted like aspect permeates the mouthfeel, very inviting. As it warms, becomes a little more sweet.
Overall: Definitely could have a few of these in a row, alcohol is subdued. Solid offering, finished easily & it’s a good flavorful brew, perfect for a winter afternoon.
On tap at the brewery: Opaque dark brown color, with a copper hue, and no visible activity. Weak creamy beige 1 finger head, dead in a minute, with poor legs. Flavors of chocolate, coffee, oysters, rye, barley, faint scotch, herbal spices. A little sweet with balanced bitterness. Creamy full body with prickly carbonation. Medium strength finish, dry stout feel, lingering roasted dark malts. This scotch ale is too weak and accessible form a low ABV. On tap at John Browns. Pours a clear amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a strong nuttiness with sweet grains and bread supporting. Slurped one last night, thank goodness for the new taster pack. Hopefully PH will keep mixing it up. Looks like it tastes and smells, earthy translucent mud-brown with a thin off white head. Really smells of light spices, barnyard, horse breath and maple. Taste is much the same with some burnt toffee and roasty malts and very light bittering hops. Now most people would probably find this too smokey and horse like, and they would be right. I rather enjoy the smokey flavour. It smells like you are combing a horse in a barn, but in a good way. Not something you would want to drink too much of, but quite interesting brew.

Basically liquid smoke. Pretty clean finish. Pours very dark amber. Smells of smoked peat, light scotch. Good for something different but not great.

Pours a clear dark brown with a small brown head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of smoke, peat, campfire, nuts and some sweet malts... Caramel like in the background. Taste is an overwhelming amount of peat, campfire, nuts almost burnt like flavors. Bottle. 4.8%. Dark brown/black pour (colour of an irish stout) with a bubbly tan foam with medium retention. Aroma is roasted malts, toffee. Taste is quite sweet at first, malt and toffee, but quite lightbodied. Rather bitter and bland through the finish. Meh.
