Cloudy reddish beer - very sweet, almost sticky - there is a lot of smokiness in this one, both from the peat smoked malt they use, and the phenols from the yeast - however, there are a lot of other unwanted/undesirable phenols as well (mostly plasticy, band-aid qualities) - the strength and sweetness cover these up a little, but there are still hard to ignore - this beer was lucky I liked the smoky character so much. Generally I prefer Scottish ales to be more stout. But again, I decided to let this one speak for itself rather than comparing it to the "extreme" brews I’ve grown accustomed to. Pours copper with amber highlights. Tastes a bit smoky and medicinal with a very nice lightly roasted malt. A bit of peat and honey, too. Tap @ Pumphouse: Poured a dark brown-amber color with a medium sized beige head. Smokey, caramel and sweet malt aroma. The flavor was malty and sweet with a hint of fruit and bread. On tap at the brewpub on 10/14/07: Pours a dark copper mahogany with a nicely-lacing light tan head. Aroma of good sweet peaty caramel and a touch of doughy yeast. sweet caramel aroma with light earthy hops and a hint of smoke,
sweet dark caramel flavor, lots of earthy smokey peat character, nice bitterness arises out of the earthy character for a long bitter finish,

Clear amber with little head. Great roasted malts. Yummy. Had on tap a few months ago.
