A very easy to approach barleywine for those that maybe haven’t been exposed to the style. Surprisngly high in alcohol, but tempered with enough caramel/toffee notes to be pleasing to the nose and palate. There is definitely some depth here with some dark fruits with just a slight echo of hops. A pretty straightforward barleywine, but tasty and satisfying. onceblind (10561) - Denver, Colorado, USA - NOV 26, 2013
Aged a year. Dark murky brown with a slight plum tone under a small foamy tan head. Nose is stone-fruity with notes of plum and raisin and a bit of cherry, as well as nutty toffee and a sugary caramel sweetness. The taste is a bit earthy but very largely sweet with some nutty toffee, candy sugar, stone fruits, and caramel..sorta has a weird tobacco tone toward the end, but it’s light and fleeting. Neat little herbal hop tone in the middle and finish. Lots of earthy plum raisin and cherry with a boozy toffee note. Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 26, 2013
12 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin frothy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee, some mild toast and a bitter hop finish. The taste is toffee, treacle, almost chocolatey and a bitter citrus hop finish. Medium bodied, bitter hop finish, Solid beer. arrogantb (1402) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAR 9, 2013
Brown color, minimal head. Aroma is very strong molasses, sweetness, I thought it was better than average. The flavor was more molasses but also a bit of tobacco. My buddy said it was like the spit from chewing tobacco. I wouldn’t buy this but it wasn’t disgusting, just an average barleywine.

Tap at the Sacramento venue. Pours nearly black with a creamy beige head. Brown sugar aroma. Flavor is biter with a touch of heat.So bitter the brown sugar is background. Malty yet bitter. Heat sort of dissipates. Excellent.

On tap at Pyramid Alehouse, Seattle. Very strong and intensive... Nice sweet honey-like aroma... I enjoed it... gsmitty80 (2130) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 19, 2012
Nice barleywine but even with the high alcohol it really didn’t have the kick that most do. I think it was also a little thick but not bad for Pyramid. alexsdad06 (10803) - West Chester, Ohio, USA - DEC 1, 2012
12 oz. bottle from 5000. Pours a deep amber/copper color with a small beige head. The aroma is sweeter toffee and caramel malts, some dark fruits with a touch of herbal hops. The flavor is again very malt forward with caramel and toffee being prominent. Some dark fruit that is on the ripe side and light herbal hops. Pretty one dimensional, but decent. Hides the abv pretty well. cbfobes (2891) - Quad Cities, Illinois, USA - NOV 24, 2012
Pours a dark brown red with an off white head, aroma was very sweet with a lot of malt and some dark fruit mixed in, the flavor has a good amount of caramel and malt with some hops in the finish, abv is well hidden, really not all that bad Tmoney99 (14964) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 6, 2012
Bottle shared by alexsadad06. Poured clear dark brown in color with an average white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate dark fruit, malt and herbal hop aroma. Moderate smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium complex sweet flavor to medium dark sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with a complex beer.
