Aged a year. Dark murky brown with a slight plum tone under a small foamy tan head. Nose is stone-fruity with notes of plum and raisin and a bit of cherry, as well as nutty toffee and a sugary caramel sweetness. The taste is a bit earthy but very largely sweet with some nutty toffee, candy sugar, stone fruits, and caramel..sorta has a weird tobacco tone toward the end, but it’s light and fleeting. Neat little herbal hop tone in the middle and finish. Lots of earthy plum raisin and cherry with a boozy toffee note. User134089 (1644) - - SEP 12, 2012
12-oz. bottle into a pint glass at my house on Sept. 9, 2012 (purchased at Vons in Mission Gorge (San Diego, Calif.) for a variety 12-pack price of $14.99 on Sept. 9, 2012). Finger of head. Reddish black, almost purple with khaki, gray head. Good retention all around that appeared khaki tan.
Smelled liquor, Captain Morgan, rum, dark cherry, vodka, raspberry and wine.
Tasted dark fruits, light chocolate, cherry, black cherry. Very smooth.
Medium body. Slick texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth, warming finish. Felt so good.
Really liked this beer, especially as it went on. Grew on me a lot. Definitely better than the Uinta Anniversary Barleywine I had the night before. smaynard6000 (1266) - Apopka, Florida, USA - OCT 20, 2012
12oz bottle. Pours deep red with creamy tan head. Aroma is predominantly sweet with some spicy character. Very sweet flavor with just a tiny bit of hoppiness and then alcohol in the finish. I love barley wine and this is pretty good. Oscbert (1337) - Lincoln, California, USA - OCT 9, 2012
~Strong sweet woody resinous aroma with black licorice and raisin. Sweetness from alcohol as well.
~Pours a dark brown with garnet and small disappearing off white head.
~Prune fruity flavor with black licorice and woody resinous alcohol. Spicy woody character, not sure how to describe.
~Full bodied, Med CO2, Alcohol warmth, slight numbness on tongue and lingering woody finish.
~Best beer I’ve had from Pyramid. Wish I had some more to age. Probably help round it out as this is still a bit hot. I would like slightly more malt fruitiness/sweetness for balance. I really like this one and great deal for the Fall variety pack. Wish this was sold in a six pack though. Dogbrick (14302) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 18, 2012
Sample at the Seattle brewpub. Dark copper-amber color with a medium light beige head that dissipates slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma is malty with some dark fruit notes. Full-bodied with a rich caramel malt character and flavors of hops and ripe fruit. The finish is sweet with up front and leaves a piney hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Tap: dark brown with a red tint and medium-sized khaki head. Aroma is light with malt, molasses, prune and alcohol. Flavor starts with a big brown sugar and molasses sweetness then moves into a little prune, raisin and licorice, ending with a fose of alcohol. Palate is malty thick a somewhat syrupy sweet with a mild alcohol burn. I liked the flavor with nice warm thick feeling. I could drink a few a feel happy. bhensonb (15965) - Woodland, California, USA - FEB 6, 2013
Tap at the Sacramento venue. Pours nearly black with a creamy beige head. Brown sugar aroma. Flavor is biter with a touch of heat.So bitter the brown sugar is background. Malty yet bitter. Heat sort of dissipates. Excellent.

This nailed the aroma but was a bit flat in the appearance. The flavor was a good sticky sweet with the right heft to the body, but was unfortunately just a bit too obvious in the alcohol for me. Surprised. in a good way. nuplastikk (6511) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 29, 2012
12oz bottle. Deep thick brown-red. Thin, oily beige head steadily rims the glass. Sweet big malt aroma. While there is some serious resiny hop action, this is pretty malt forward, letting the thick, rich malt tones shine. Relatively straightforward and well executed. Dry, cherry wood tones. Full bodied, but hides the alcohol well. Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 26, 2013
12 ounce bottle from State Line Liquors. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a thin frothy tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of toffee, some mild toast and a bitter hop finish. The taste is toffee, treacle, almost chocolatey and a bitter citrus hop finish. Medium bodied, bitter hop finish, Solid beer.
