12oz bottle consumed a month and a half after the enjoy by date. Oops. Opaque brown-black body, thin off-white head laces the glass a little. Not much of an aroma, sweet brown malt, some earthy hops. Kind of comes across more as a India Brown Ale on the darker side, not really comparable to most Black IPAs. Sort of like a decently hopped, oily porter. Malty, sandy brown malt tones. OK, maybe. gregwilsonstl (2466) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - JUL 18, 2013
Lots of tan head. Dark black. Pretty hoppy. Grapefruit. Medium body. Good all all around black ipa. kaser (6220) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 2, 2013
Had this on draft at Pyramid Brewery by Safeco field. Top notch black IPA. Hoppy malty and chocolate notes. Love it lamas (1636) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 23, 2013
Bottle. Enjoy by: 06/15/13. A deep ruby pour with a smallish khaki head. Caramel malts, a rich breadiness, chocolate, grapefruits, citrus rinds, and hints of pine make up the aroma. Goes down relatively thin to medium-bodied. Caramel maltiness, light chocolate, and a rich breadiness start things off taste-wise. An earthy graininess is present. Roasted coffee and plenty of bitter grapefruits at the end. A drying finish that lingers. Forgettable. Fratto (2845) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAY 25, 2013
Bottle from Fossil Creek. Dark pour with a tan head. Aroma is roasted oranges and cocoa. Taste is lots of roast and ash, slight citrus, and carbonation.

Dark brown coloured body with a thinnish tan head and a bit of brown tints. Aroma of fresh hops with nice floral and earthy scents with a good roasted malt nose. Medium-bodied; Assertive hops up front with a slight pine and pineapple flavour all covered up by a good and nutty roasted malt flavour. Aftertaste shows a lot of bitterness both from the roasted malt and from the hops - a very nice blend and a good balance. Overall, a nice beer with a good balance and showing some pleasant hops with a good bite from the earthy malt. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Bottle Stop Liquor in Valdez, Alaska a few minutes ago on 24-May-2013 for US$2.95 sampled here in my hotel room in Valdez, Alaska on 24-May-2013. Pours dark brown, ruby...with a very tall, light brown head.
Aroma is pine, citrus,....hint of eucalyptus.
Flavour is grapefruit peel and light coffee.
Roasty and citric.
Very nice. EdInSaltLake (727) - Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - MAY 21, 2013
Lemon/orange/grapefruit hops, with caramel and roasted malt (more roasted in flavor than aroma). A little herbal-ish acrid flavor--not much. Nice lingering fruity flavor. Aroma is a little soapy. mikey (503) - farmington, Utah, USA - MAY 20, 2013
Pours black like a porter but the nose is all IPA. Citrus and piney hops with roasted malt and coffee. The flavor starts with a fair dose of roasted malt, caramel, toffee, and chocolate. Grapefruit and pine come next to round it out. The finish is tangy with peachy citrus that carries through to the finish. The best Pyramid beer to come along in quite some time. thegreenrooster (4373) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - MAY 18, 2013
Pour is a dark brown with a huge tan head. Aroma is a decent mix of hops and roasted malt. Flavor is much the same a nice hoppy backbone with a decent helping of roast malt. A nice roast is left on the tounge after the swallow. This was quite decent from a brewer that makes so-so stuff.
