A growing style in the Northwest, Dark IPAs feature all the tasty attributes of a standard IPA, yet juxtaposed against a black malt canvas. Discord is not short on character, with a prominent malt profile that meets up with the bitterness and hop presence from five different hops. A variety of roasted malts provide color and flavor, yet this beer has a lighter body reminiscent of an IPA, not heavy like a porter or stout.

Bottle @ home picked up at Wilburs Fort Collins. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a dark brown head. Fairly spicy and resiny hoppy forward, a bit piney, burnt chocolate aroma. Fairly bitter, a bit smoky, very roasty, burnt malty, chocolate, somewhat caramelized malty flavor with a lot of bitterness on the finish along with some pine. Not my favorite but drinkable.

Pours a dark brown color with a thick tan head that leaves awesome lacing. Smells of roasted malt, citrus and pine. Tastes of all the same things with a little chocolate flavor in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and slightly chewy with decent carbonation and a dry finish. Pretty good, but kind of average for a black ipa.

Mix pack of 12oz. bottles. Pours dark with a filmy head. Hops and bread come through in the aroma. Tastes of roasted hopes, pine, and a bit of sweetness. Nice lingering after taste.

Sample at the Seattle brewpub. Dark brown color with some amber around the edges and a medium light beige head that recedes slowly. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of toasted malt and hops. Medium body with flavors of piney hops and sweet malt. The finish is malty up front with a short resiny hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Poured from the bottle. I think Ive had this on tap at the now defunct Sacramento store.: ( poured dark, brownish reddish. Aroma is of dank hopPS. Thick head and good lacing. Flavour shows the roasted grains in a way that is not reminiscent of most CDAs. This is much different than a CDA. NOT bad at all though just different.

Dark and roasty but with a noticeable hop bite -- must be a black IPA. Well, brown anyway. Oddly fizzy.
