22 oz. bottle purchased at Safeway in Lynnwood, WA (IIRC). Pours a dark brown with foamy head that is best described as a darker cream color. Aroma: Roasted malt and hops. Flavor: Same as the aroma, with a hint of coffee. poisoneddwarf (2688) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - APR 30, 2012
12 oz bottle from a six pack bought at Grocery Outlet. I had to rate a dark IPA right after the white IPA I just drank. Aroma is pretty standard black IPA, dark roasty malts juxtaposed with citrusy hops; coffee, bread, grapefruit are accounted for. This one seems to lean a little more towards the dark roasty malt character than hoppy IPA. Pours dark dark brown to black with reddish tints; has a collapsing beige head. As in the aroma, the taste leans more toward a porter flavor than IPA, which I have no problem with. Has a nice roasted coffee flavor profile. Starts sweet and finishes with a lingering bitterness. Carbonation is average and the body is a little on the thin side. I’m pleasantly surprised by this beer. It really caught me off guard. I’ve been let down by Pyramid a lot during the last 5-8 years or so. They seem to have been having an identity crisis during that time. Their packaging changes moreso than any other brewery I can think of. Most of their portfolio is extremely boring. This is the best beer to come from them in a long time I think. On tap at Macgreggor’s. Dark mahogony beer with a tan head. Grapefruit and light caramel aroma. Grapefruit and light roast flavor with light chocolate. Medium bodied. Nice bitterness. Grapefruit and light pine lingers with lighht roast and light chocolate. Drake (14332) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - APR 27, 2012
12 ounce bottle. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized frothy brown head. Decent head retention. Aroma of chocolate malts with herbal and citrus hops. The taste is bitter roasted malts, chocolate, herbal hops, some nuttiness. Medium bodied. takelondon (28) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 26, 2012
Poured into a tulip, very dark appearance and tan head. Not much from the aroma other than malt and hops, though it had a much more robust profile of the malts and hops than other IPAs. Taste was mostly bitter with a long finish and thin slick mouthfeel. An interesting IPA with less of the massive hop flavor.

Aroma is very weak. Slightly malty but nothing really stands out. Pretty disappointing considering this is a good beer. The appearance is unique. It looks like pepsi but when held up to a light it reveals a nice crimson opaqueness. Taste is a bit insipid really. but still pleasant. A very decent representation of the style but it’s a bit watery tasting. Flavors of burned bacon, hoppy bitterness etc. yeah this one isn’t really standing out to me. Decent beer for the buck. djd07 (16289) - Houston, Texas, USA - APR 20, 2012
Bottle. Pours a clear amber with small off white head. The aroma is floral hop and pine. Medium mouthfeel with a strong bitter hop and long lingering dry finish. A good black IPA from Pyramid. Shink (177) - Portland, Oregon, USA - APR 18, 2012
Dark in color with a very slight reddish color. Good clean head with adequate foam retention which is expected for an IPA. Very distinct hoppy taste. A slight aftertaste detracted from the overall experience. savnac (2656) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - APR 16, 2012
12 oz bottle. Dark reddish brown with a foamy, light tan head. Aroma is floral, chocolate, citrus with some mineral qualities. Flavor starts with bitter hops and dry cocoa with some malt sweetness and a mineral finish. Medium body with average carbonation and a dry mouth feel. This is not so good, not really balanced and an odd mineral quality. haddon90 (1634) - Newport Beach, California, USA - APR 15, 2012
Bottle. Pours a clear brownish color with a thin tan head. Nice, roasted hoppy aroma. Smoky taste. Roasted malt. Fairly complex flavor. Nothing much else, but one of the better Pyramid’s that I have had.
