1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20
Slight caramel aroma, appears flavorfull but doesn’t come through. Nothing really stands out as far as taste. They missed on this one.
Very dark and very smooth. This is classic dark IPA with heavy hops and a tan head. slowrunner77 (12895) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 26, 2014
"Not bad, but not something I particularly Cared for either. Kinda does the bare minimum in each aspect. Brown in color, bitter without much hop aroma or flavor. Just a bit underwhelming." Bulk_Carrier (6065) - Vermont, USA - JUN 20, 2014
Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking straight up black color with a one finger off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. It left some nice light clingy lacing.
The smell had a nice blend of roasty to sweet malts coating some nice bittersweet citrusy hops.
The taste took those flavors and blended it fairly easy. There was a nice roasty and slightly citrusy aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed to do its due diligence to allow a decent sharpness pounding my tongue into submission.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good black ale worthy of having again. coreyswei11 (1) - Oregon City, USA - JUN 7, 2014 does not count
one of the best taste i ever had, bar none - can’t wait for winter season to come - obviously i sounded novice, but who cares (i am all for learning the art and the taste of beers to come)
cheers to you all Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - MAR 3, 2014
Orange-amber pour with an off-white head. The aroma has some sugar, grass and toffee notes. The flavor is a mix of pine, toffee and tea. There is also a low amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle. Dark brown, clear, tall tan head. Caramel malt aroma with hoppiness blended in. I would call this a hoppy brown ale, but whatever you call, it is a good beer! jeffs515 (124) - Ogden, Utah, USA - SEP 5, 2013
Aroma is smokey sweet Carmel with hints of grassy citrus hops. Appearance is dark brown foggy with tan head the diminishes fast but leaves a nice lacing. Mild carbanation. Hoppy right off but gets very malty going down smokey with a coffee flavor. Leaves pallet a little sticky. Overall, good beer. geologyguy (1662) - Columbia, South Carolina, USA - AUG 13, 2013
expired from bi-lo.....huge head that dissipates annoyingly slowly....don’t usually like IPAs but this is pretty good...not too bitter...(maybe cause expired)...slight smokey taste...quite malty...wish there was more flavor than the smoke and malt though coolpop (1394) - Birmingham, Alabama, USA - AUG 12, 2013
Bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge, pillowy light tan head. Aroma is quite hoppy: grapefruit, pineapple, pine, some earthy notes. Some chocolate and caramel in there too. Flavor is aggressively hoppy (grapefruit and pine in particular) but only moderately bitter. Fairly malty, some chocolate in there. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Somewhere between a black IPA and a hoppy porter -- neither style I particularly care for. Oh well. seymour (2120) - Maplewood, Missouri, USA - JUL 31, 2013
12oz brown bottle fro Cost Plus World Market, into a shaker glass. It poured a near opaque black colour with HUGE beige foam, too much really, everlasting with lace. Strong hoppy aromas: floral, citrusy, fruity, pine resin, black currant. Strong grapefruity American hops flavor, but a firm grainbill as well: bready, slightly toasty, but much less roasty than you’d expect based on the colour. Definitely a bitter IPA, but balanced. Light-medium body, strong carbonation, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, with a nice fruity, bittersweet aftertaste. A nice example of the Black IPA or Cascadian Dark Ale style.
