Ignition Series #2
Outburst Imperial IPA is a high-impact workout for the senses. A crafty combination of four different hops, and a dose of dry hopping, powers Outburst to 80 IBU strong. Its bold profile offers an aroma reminiscent of the Northwest hop fields at harvest time, along with spicy overtones of fresh citrus. Seeking a harmonious balance to the hop overload, we’ve blended four different specialty malts to create a distinctive deep amber hue and sweet caramel and roasty flavors.

Pineapple, caramel and a bit of spiciness. Really surprised by this offering from Pyramid. Lots of fresh hop flavor.

Bottle from a supermarket along the California/Nevada border. Aroma is oily hops, tropical fruits, biscuity malt, touch of caramel, pine resin, citrus, orange. Flavour is above moderate sweet with a firm bitter finish. Alcohol slightly noticeable. Body is medium. Very agressively hopped, bit boozy, could use a lot more balance.

355 ml bottle.
Pours clear golden color with small head. Resin on the nose, some hops left, orange and malts. Bitter malty flavor with mandarin and orange, resinous hops, slick palate, some bitterness on the aftertaste too. Slightly sweet overall. Sadly not very fresh anymore.

This particular offering seems to me to be pretty much the usual DIPA, but what I don’t like about it is the obvious alcohol content, undisguised by maltiness, hops or flavor. So many other DIPA’s do a much better job at this... sometimes to my detriment (I’m thinking of you, Lagunitas Maximus!) Aroma of citrus and caramel, pours amber with a cream head. Sweet and full malty flavor with some pine involved. I would try this again.

Draft at Pyramid Taproom, Oakland Airport. Pours clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, floral notes. Taste is citrus, floral notes, caramel malt, bread. Finish is moderately bitter and a little too sweet.

tightslice (1271) - Redwood City, California, USA - NOV 3, 2016
Bottle from Safeway in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is sweet corn, caramel, mild pine and citrus. Taste is sweet and subdued...maybe this wasn’t very fresh, a little too sweet and not nearly enough hop flavor for an Imperial IPA.

JPDIPSO (6216) - Wauwatosa, USA - SEP 28, 2016
Dark copper color. Moderate, but stable light beige head. Floral to citric fresh hops aromas. Hints of toasted malt in the background. Quite citric and malty. Fairly sweet with a mild syrup flavor. Finish is a bit biting and quite long. The longer I wait between quaffs, the more I hesitate. 12/10

Sweet caramel, cotton candy, pineapples and pine in aroma. Ruby copper with small head. Medium bitterness with notes of tropical fruit in taste. Pretty decent ipa, something different.

This was a very strong beer it had a nice upfront kick that really was strong but didn't go all the way through the beer to take it over. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours a hazy deep amber. Minimal head. Aromas of sweet malt, a touch of corn, and hops. Taste is of buttered biscuits, citrus hops, a touch of pine, and a nicely smooth finish. ABV is noticeable only very late in the palate. A nice beer. Not great, but so few are.

teamsale (273) - Washington, USA - JUN 30, 2016
On tap. Pours a hazy amber with a beige head and good lacing. Smells fruity pineapple and earth. Tastes fruity and tangy, not your standard NW DIPA. Nice level of bitterness and a good fruity aftertaste that lasts the right about of time.
