Dark as night with an average head. A spicy nutmeg-like nose foreshadows the chocolate nutty, almost Porter-like flavors. Good Christmas-type beer if you’re into that.

A pretty solid beer. Weak head, aroma of brown sugar. A rather full malty taste along with sweet hops and fruity notes. Alcohol came out as it warmed.

I tried this beer after sharing a ’95 vintage of Samichlaus so my tastes were a little overwhelmed. From what I could decifer, it is a decent winter beer that should be tried by anyone who is a fan of brown ales.

Think barley wine light, and then you’ve probably got a good idea of what to expect. Clear dk brown red, with minimal tan head. Aroma is strong caramel malty at first, but a noticeable earthy hoppiness shows up as it warms. Perhaps the slightest hint of seasonal spices? Flavor is malty sweet & caramel at the start. Then, toward the back of the mouth, pine hop bitterness takes over and takes you through the swallow. Fairly rich bodied.

Nicely thick. Hoppy and warming. Similar to but not quite as good as Hiburnation ale.

Spicey aroma, mainly nutmeg. Great flavour - piney, spicey, malty, with a good hop backbone. Nice EtOH burn.

Like a Scottish. Sweet, malty, Mild hopping. Pretty basic, and hidden alcohol. One of my Pyramid favorties but still nothing amazing. On tap in Berkeley.
