Bottled. A dark amber beer with a thin orangey head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, fruit, and a bit of spices. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, yeast, fruit, alcohol, and malt, leading to a dry lightly butterscotch finish. anders37 (26257) - Malmö, SWEDEN - MAR 6, 2013

21St December 2008. Clear dark brown beer. Malty but balanced with a bitter hop finish. Smooth palate offset by a little spice. Not bad.

Dark brown color; small head. Average caramel aroma, and light spices. Dark caramel flavor, lean body; the final is disturbing: too much roasted malt and ashes, but, mostly, too bitter. It’s not pleasant. Oakes (17274) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - NOV 17, 2000
Underrated amongst NW barley wines. Probably too subtle for all those hopheads. jtclockwork (16444) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 8, 2010
Very mildly spiced winter. Deep mahogany color. Great looking, but lacking complexity. Rated 1/24/02 brokensail (16440) - Dublin, California, USA - DEC 25, 2013
On tap @ Porkys Pizza Palace. Amber pour with a small off-white head. Nose is sweet and cola-like. Nuts, caramel, toffee, and some dark fruits. Flavor is quite sweet as well. Lots of cola, nuts, caramel, and toffee. Kind of a weird iron flavor to it. Meh. bhensonb (15096) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 22, 2007
Aroma of lightly roasted caramel. Mahogany color with a respectable beige head. Rather thin in body with very mild carbonation. LIghtly spiced sweet caramel witha little bitterness. The finish seems a bit vanilla, a bit caramel, but the bitter builds enough to help out. Complex fruit flavors? Maybe next time. It is a very good ale. Seriously.
