3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 29, 2006 Bottle. Rated 6/29/06. This one’s stamped "06/08/08." That doesn’t seem I’ve read it right, but I can definietly tell it’s a fresh bottle. Hop nose and taste is very fresh, grassy and piney with a hint of what I lovingly call "cat piss." No, that means I like its boldness. Looks a little pale, but malts are quite sweet and sticky, which would only intensify if the bottle is left to age. No doubt, a big ass kicking of northwestern alphas for us hop heads.
Bottled, rated 9/22/03. My bottle, from a friend’s cellar, was date-stamped 3/99, so here’s how well it has aged: Very flowery/estery smell when opened. Pours a slightly cloudy amber body, thin head but leaves a little lacing. Taste is actually closer to a thin barley wine; maltiness overwhelming the mellowed hop profile. Holds up well if stored carefully, but I wouldn’t recommend keeping space for it if you have some Bigfoot. I opened a second, equally old bottle and got more of a big hop aroma and taste. Alcohol still very noticeable, almost like a barelywine, and more of a citrus note as well. I can’t be more critical since these are 4-year old bottles, so just take this as a cautionary on well a good beer keeps.
24oz draft in to a plastic glass at Safeco Field in Seattle. Dark brown-orange, nice off white foam. Chocolate malt and amber, caramel base. Some alcohol flavor and richness. This is a tasty, classic, basic and pleasing IPA. natejgood (510) - Bozeman, Montana, USA - OCT 29, 2016
Pours hazy medium golden with a nice white head broken up by a few large bubbles. Nothing remarkable about the aroma. It actually smells a bit lagery. This beer drinks like a pale ale but has a bit of a hop kick at the back end. The hop kick is bitter without being too bighting. Not a great IPA but a very drinkable beer. UPDATED: NOV 7, 2016 22-ounce bottle. Typical good floral IPA aroma. Not as bitter as some I have tried. BeerRenter76 (1015) - Texas, USA - MAR 19, 2016
Originally rated on 8/19/08. Thunderhead poured a medium yellow body, its mid level carbonation gave it a small white head. Mouthfeel was adequate, Aroma was very faint, a slight hop presence with no dominate floral or pine attributes. Taste was about the same as the aroma. Overall its o.k., however i wont purchase it again since there are so many other IPA’s yet to try. altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - FEB 13, 2016

Rating #1147 8 oz at Beer Revolution, July 4, 2014. Clear golden amber pour with a weak, white head that bubbles away to a ring. Aroma is strong with hops, roasted malt, and is quite earthy. Taste is more of the same, dry hops and roast malts dominating the flavour, with a hint of caramel. Finish is dry, but balanced and satisfying. Pretty average. Bottle at Chingyi's after Momotaro. Smells of musty malt, dry, lightly spicy and woody. Taste is light spice, dry, woody, fluffy, light floral hop. zdk (1917) - New York, New York, USA - SEP 17, 2015
Bottle at the Seattle airport. Not bad as an emergency IPA. Crystal malts and floral hops, tannic finish with some raisin booze mikedR (1561) - Gilbert, Arizona, USA - JUL 6, 2015
Good IPA. Slightly sweet malt bill. Hops are more pine oriented. Sufficient bitterness.
