Nice dark brown color with a small head. There is an earthy aroma with hints of herbs or spices. Roasted malts and a fairly dry taste with only a hint of a hop presance are noticable. Ernest (7696) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - MAR 14, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2004 Head is initially small, fizzy, light brown, fully diminishing. Body is clear dark brown. Aroma is moderately malty (cereal), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of DMS, corn syrup, and solvent. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. One of the worst so-called Scottish ales I've ever had. Uriel (146) - San Jose, California, USA - MAR 14, 2004
A little hoppier than expected. It overbalances the malt, leaving just the hoppy notes. The initial flavor is very mild, not giving a lot to work with. Wrath (362) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - MAR 12, 2004
Brown color with mild malt smell. Taste is sweet and smooth with some nutty fruity flavors.Caramel is also noticed. Finishes dry and boring Sham (1844) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 11, 2004
Mahogany pour with a small head and no lacing. Earthy roast malt, slightly nutty and light hops in the aroma. Big roast malts emerge in the flavors. Fruits, nuts, and spices join in the fun. Smooth malty palate, and a spicy yet hoppy finish accompanied by a bit of nuts and earthiness.

I am growing more fond of American microbrews from NW. This was a pleasant suprise. Touch of sweet and smoke. Mine ended up clean. Would definitely drink this again. ontario102 (794) - Boise, Idaho, USA - MAR 7, 2004
Mild malt aroma; rather mild, not too sweet, slightly smokey; needs more peaty maltiness; quite drinkable, though. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - FEB 28, 2004
Dark brown/ruby color with off-white to tan head and lots of lacing. The aroma has some bright caramel, not sweet but a little more astringant. Lots of chocolate type malts with some bourbon flavors coming into some flavors. The malt profile is light and sweet but finishes a bit astringent. Very earthy! baobubba (454) - Starkville, Mississippi, USA - FEB 26, 2004
Dark amber with little head. Clear. Caramelly sweet aroma accented by some toast and dark fruit. Sweet with moderate body. Light bitter finish with lingering caramelized sugar. A steady brew for the seaon. AleDrinker (1089) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - FEB 25, 2004
Had this one on draught at the brewpub. Nice reddish brown color. Decent head on top. Malty sweet aroma. Slight flavor of smoke, mostly carmel. Nice medium bodied beer, very easy to drink.
