3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Black color with creamy tan head. Aroma with some chocolate, salty licorice, and finally some hoppiness. Not that much oak/barrel as expected but still hoppy and bitter.
Malzig herber, leicht brotiger Antrunk. Noten von Holz, Karamell, etwas Kakao. Der Alkohol ist minimal erkennbar, vollmundig. Nicht übermäßig würzig, mittellanger schokoladiger Nachhall. Nett! 11/9/11/10/11/10 Theydon_Bois (20158) - Hazlemere, the lower Xhitlerns, Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - OCT 26, 2014
Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, big thanks to Fin for trading me this one, 24/10/14.
Light black with a decent tan head that collapses to a swirl and edgeing.
Nose is bitter roast, earthy, light smoke, dark toffee, chocolate.
Taste comprises dark toffee, charr, chocolate, molasses, woody rinse, mellow dark fruits.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close.
Decent enough impy, held up fairly well. Scopey (15264) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 24, 2014
Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours near black with a thin light tan head. The nose is earth, wood, vanilla, nougat, dark chocolate, cake, vanilla ice cream and candy. The taste is smooth, rich, earthy, toasty, booze, oak, charred wood and vanilla with a dry, warming finish. Full body and fine carbonation. Pretty punchy stuff. Big charred wood action, not bad. Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours black-brown with a frothy beige head. Lots of tar in the nose, dried fruits, raisins. Medium sweet flavor with loads of charred wood, baking cocoa, ash, earth. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with lots and lots of aggressive charred malts, more baking cocoa, scorched earth, lasting ash. Novel but the ash and char is a but dominant. meerbier (1474) - Pijnacker, NETHERLANDS - JUL 6, 2012

Opaque and very dark brown beer, Softish palate, a little dry. Light too. Minerally stout with some alcohol aniseed but no alcohol heat. The oaking doesn’t do much but round off what is a pretty light Impy Stout. Drinkable.
(Draught) Pours almost black. The aroma is medium roasted, medium to heavily hoppy and light to medium oaky with tones of flowers, grapefruit, resin, coffee/espresso, tar and asphalt. The flavour is medium to heavily roasted and hoppy with a nice and balanced oak backdrop. Notes of grapefruit, resin, coffee, vanilla and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is clean, round and oily. Medium bodied. HogTownHarry (7062) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - JUL 6, 2011
Backlog - May 13, 2010. 250ml bottle shared with blankboy and garthicus. Nearly opaque thick-looking brown black with a small brown head. Dry and woody aroma, oily, fairly strong alcohol, no coffee, but a hint of sweet cream. Taste is very interesting - I got a brief intense hit of black pepper on the tongue, then it settled to very deep roast coffee bean with some cocoa, light lactic acidity, and a strong overlay of dried oak staves and dessicated resin bitterness - again strong but not overpowering alcohol balancing in. Silky mouthfeel, fairly thick, a tad astringent, very mild carbonation, with big nutty/roasty maltiness up front, yielding to dry, lightly woody bitterness in the finish. It’s aging quite well - this bottle has to be a few years old .... a really pleasant treat. jtclockwork (16855) - , New Jersey, USA - JUN 11, 2011
Bottle thanks to glouglouburp. Pours black. Brown head. Nose/taste of woody oak chips, coffee, heavily roast chocolate malt, mocha and vanilla. Wood is very prominent. Taste has a bit of a cedar characteristic to it. Body is on the thinner side for the style. Solid all around. rodenbach99 (4572) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 30, 2011
