It pours deep brown with a tan head. The aroma has toffee, caramel, toasty rich malt and a nice smooth character to it all. It has a medium body with semi sharp carbonation. The taste is quite a bit drier with the toffee, burnt caramel, herbal tea and alcohol. Tasty.

This is one of my favorite rahr beers, their scotch ale is best on tap. Flavorful strong and a go to beer if your craving something delicious. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 oz. can. Pours medium, light beige, well retained, head with slight lacing over a clear, brown (SRM 22) body.....nose is moderate dried, fruits, light toffee/caramel, mild molasses......taste is lightly sweet with dried fruits, toffee/caramel, mild nuttiness, finishing with mild hop bitterness, balance slightly to the malts.....mouth feel, medium light body, slight alcohol, low carbonation. The finishing hop bitterness is a bit too prominent for the style, other than that the aromas and flavors are quite nice. BJCP 8/3/12/4/6

Mahogany pour from can. Sweet leaning...toffee, vanilla, plumb and dark pit fruits. Equal nose and flavor and good body. A touch of peat and this is awesome.

Can. Dark auburn. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, toffee, bit of roast. Nice palate. Caramel and a bit roasty in the flavor

4 oz. pour, on tap at The Ginger Man in Austin, Texas. Consumed on 11-6-16. Hazy, dark but shiny amber. Beige head. Caramel and carrot juice scents. Pleasant enough, simple, malty taste. Pretty generic in flavor but works okay. Old-fashioned craft beer. Sweeter than ideal for me. Light body. Frothy and smooth in the palate. Easy to drink. Forgettable.

Deep dark cherry in color, flimsy beige head, kinda fizzy in appearance like a cola. Aroma of sweet tea leaves, tobacco, dark fruity malts and caramel... Smells bold and clean. Lots of caramel, toffee, light roast coffee and notes of mint. Crisp on the tongue initially but leads to a bit of a fuller bodied, lingering finish of malty yumminess. Well masked alcohol.

Deeper mahogany brown, quite clear. Light tan head. Strong caramel nose, some light grains and grassiness. Round sweetness, a bit of bitterness. Medium body, quite clean. Good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Awesome scotch ale. Pours a very deep amber with little to no head and very little lacing as you drink it. The aroma is that of sarsparilla or a root beer smell, followed by an definite caramel aroma and just a hint of vanilla. The taste is very similar to the aroma, it starts off like a childhood memory, a simple glass of root beer on a summer night. Then it quickly transitions into a caramel creaminess again with the hint of vanilla. The mouthfeel, although a seemingly medium bodied beer, is quite full. With the powerful bubbles lingering on the tongue for quite awhile. This is a great example of scotch ale.
