12 oz bottle compliments of Crajun. Dark ruby red pour (into the closest thing that I had to a "thistle"), a tall tulip. This beer is dark & barely allows any light to pass through. Sweet bready malt aroma, some candied yams, burnt sugar. Delicious and syrupy sweet on the taste buds, faintest bit of hops on the finish. Low carbonation give this a medium body and excellent mouthfeel. 8.5% abv very nicely hidden! A well put together brew! ozarkspops (368) - - FEB 17, 2013
Dark brown and medium head. Malty sweetness. Dark fruit and little to no hop aroma. Dark fruit flavor as well. Still no hops. Lots of caramel and mid malt characteristics.

Pours from the bottle a nice brown, clear, with red tints. Small cream colored head exudes grassy aromas. Hints of bread and nuts. Lots of carbonation and medium body. Sweet caramel, almonds, and toasted flavors finish sweet as well. michaelc1945 (2) - Arlington, Texas, USA - JAN 20, 2013 does not count
This is a great ale. Dark brown almost black with a malty taste with just enough hops to my liking. The alcohol is a bonus.

From notes, 2/17/12:
Poured from a 12oz bottle into a thistle glass.
A: Dark reddish brown with red highlights around the edge. Towering light beige head that settles into a disc that stays around for a while. Sporadic lacing down the glass.
S: A bit muted. Sweet malts with a slight roastiness. A bit of breadiness with some hops way in the background.
T: Dark chocolate, bitter roast, sweet caramel toffee flavor. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
M: Carbonation is normal for style; mouthfeel slightly thin for the style.
O: As a lover of the Wee Heavy/"Scotch" Ale style, I was missing the peat smokiness and hint of scotch I’m used to. If not for those expectations, I would’ve enjoyed this more. Above average and worth a try. ShawnC (76) - - SEP 22, 2012
Nice malty and grassy nose. Well balenced aroma. Great yeasty fruit with malt and hop structure. A little bit of everything. Not sure what it is but it is good.

Nothing like a good bottle of beer while you are grilling in the back yard during the winter months.. (yeah we do that in Texas because we can) at the first sip of this fine brew I fell in love. Dark color, medium body, tastes of coffee/chocolate and a wonderful aftertaste that i only wish could stay with me all day. Sadly this is a seasonal beer that is in limited supply before it even leaves the brewery. alalvarez75 (57) - New York, USA - APR 22, 2012
Not very good. A lot of heat for a beer that should have that much. Got as an extra, I can see why now.

12 oz bottle. Nice to break the string of below mediocre scotch ales. Nice dark brown pour with a generous head and a little cling. Nose of a malt bomb with peat and nuts. Taste follows the nose with a full bodied mouthfeel. I enjoyed this. It's no Big Sound or Alesmith Wee Heavy but it is certainly drinkable and worth having again.
