COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Saison" is French for season, referring to an ale that is traditionally brewed in farmhouses in southern Belgium for the late summer harvest. Our La Grange is a sturdy farmhouse ale that is very complex, with a myriad of esters ranging in fruit-like aromas to earthy yeast tones. It is dry and refreshing, perfect for your late summer thirst. What we brew in the soil of contemplation, we shall reap in the brewing harvest. We must give in order to get more. It’s in the generous giving of malts and hops that produces this bountiful yield.

Bottle, 07/02/2012. Pours sparkling golden orange, thin but dense head, sudsy lacing. Dense aroma of yeast with dry spiciness; grassy and floral with fruity bouquet- white grapes, apples, pears, orange, slight funk near the end. Taste of straw, sweet malts, orange, banana, touch of vanilla, spices and herbal bitterness, yeast on the finish. Nose started out promising but taste was a bit of a letdown, stylistically at least. Not a bad effort though.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, tiny bubbled, well retained, white head, Belgian lacing, over a clear, light gold (SRM 4) effervescent body......nose is light citrus, lemon, orange, with light clove tones, cereal, minimal hops.....taste is slightly floral sweet to start, with citrus note including lemon, orange, light cereal malts, becoming dry, ending with light pepper, light hops bitterness, balanced....mouth feel, medium body, light alcohol warmth, high carbonation, moderate acidity. This is nice rendition of the style. The spices are not as large as many, but it is nicely balanced, refreshing and pleasantly complex. The acidity is a bit low and the alcohol is a bit high. On cask. Pours a hazy golden color. Notes of clover, lemons, spice, earth, and citrus. The cask makes it slightly sour and less carbonated which is great.

Pours a slightly hazy straw gold with a short white head and lacing. It has an aroma of light malt, apple, and a bit of bread. The flavor is dry, with a slightly spicy backbone and semisweet finish over a medium body.

Appearance: Hazed, light yellow body, a few floaties in there from pulling on the lees. Tall, lasting, white head.

Smell: Soft aroma of flowers, light dusting of spice. Modest, restrained maltiness. Thin vein of fruity chewing gum. Mild nose, but, the long-lasting, pile of foam on top could be hampering this deal.

Taste: Pils and crisp, lightly grainy pale malted barley. Slender sweetness as it’s fastly drying. Spicy phenols, light herbal hints. Lemony accents trailed by orchard fruits. Hint of gum. A bit of bitterness creeping in. Well-carbonated, dry finish.

Mouthfeel: Just squeaks past medium-bodied. Medium-plus, foaming carbonation.

Overall: Above-average; a nice, competent farmhouse ale.

Not going to knock a lot of imports off the shelves, but very admirable beer with nice complexity and what I perhaps enjoyed most was the dryness rather than cloying sweetness found in too many attempts at "Belgian" style> Purty darn good>
