COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editor’s Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

Draft @ DFW. Deep amber colour with a thin head. The aroma tells me this is old school IPA, without a prominent hop signature. Moderate bitterness, some biscuity, caramelly malts, medium body, sweetish finish and no real brightness at any point. Not a bad beer, but a little dated.

Sampled at the 2014 Untapped festival in Fort Worth. Pours a clear golden orange with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of grass and light pine with a hint of resin and a pretty strong grain backbone. Flavor has lots of grass and grain with just a bit of pine coming through in the finish.

Slightly cloudy orange/amber pour, thin off white head. Nose is hops & malt. Bitter. Middle is sweet, slightly creamy malt and soft fruit. Finish is somewhat dry and bitter. Not an IPA to my taste, but an OK beer.

Location: 12 oz bottle from World Market - Houston Galleria, 10/8/13

Aroma: The nose is on the dull side with some grainy malts and some mild earthy hops
Appearance: It pours a clearish caramel-orange color with a beige head and plus lace
Flavor: The flavor is muted and a little buttery, it does not have enough bitterness for the style
Palate: The body is light-medium, it has a soft carbonation, and a dryish finish
Overall Impression: This beer doesn’t taste like it has German influence or IPA influence. It isn’t a terrible beer or anything, but honestly, this one feels mostly like a miss to me.

Pours a dark copper color with a thick tan foamy head. Interesting aroma of dried fruit and spicy herbs. Kind of a clean fruity flavor reminiscent of a belgian ale. Toasty malt, a herbal Jagermiester flavor note as wel. Overall, interasting, but i am not sure if its an IPA...

12oz bottle. Rich amber color. Thin aroma of roastiness. Taste is overwhelmingly of sweet caramel malts. Not a lot of hop action going on. Pleasant, even tasty beer, but not very IPAy at all.

Rahr’s beers are underrated. All of them have a signature caramel character. This one included. It’s not a great IPA, but it’s a delicious beer.

Draft at the Brewery The IPA poured a clear amber with a lasting white head. While at the brewery there was a strom cloud that dumped rain for about 15 minutes. I also tasted the unfiltered version as well. The aroma was of earthy hops. There was balanced bitterness with average carbonation. All beers tasted had an excellent medium body and were well made. The finish was dry with a slight lingering bitterness.

From a cask at GingerMan Ft. Worth. I don't smell much of anything. I don't know if it's the smoke in here or what, but it's weak; can't smell anything. It tastes super sweet. I immediately think apple cider. Not what I would consider a "traditional" IPA.
