COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editor’s Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

Bottle. Pretty gold color with a 2 finger head and good lace. Weird aroma of creamed corn and floral hops. Flavor is a bit flat, bready malt with slightly astringent hoppiness.

On tap. An amber color and a white foamy head with lots of lacing. There’s a faint aroma of hops with a bit of citrus. The flavor is very hop-forward with a citrusy hop flavor lasting all through the flavor with a long aftertaste, but not much else going on. An easy to drink IPA.

12oz bottle courtesy of blankboy. Clear amber, nice and bubbly, with a large diminishing frothy-fizzy off-white head. I get virtually no aroma - weird!! Taste - leafy, oddly roasty, bitter - quite bitter - but the only character I get is scorched grass ... a bit of alcohol too. Average body, astringent, undercarbonated, a bit harsh in the finish. Not really digging it.

Bottle. Very dark straw body with a thin ring of bubbles. Looks like malt liquor. Nose-stale hops, soda water. Taste-bitter and fizzy like Alka-Seltzer. Tingly, bitter, chalky, soil. Very little hops in this IPA. The only hop influence is in the bitterness. Just too much like soda water to enjoy. Some flavor hops come through in the finish but it isn’t near enough to save it.

Bottle - thanks to blankboy for passing this along. Nice dark copper colour with a decent sized white head. Aroma of caramel malt with an odd hint of coffee and pleasant herbal hops. Medium bodied. Good malt-hop balance in the flavour, with moderate bitterness in the finish. Wish I could write/describe more, but there’s mot much more to say - it’s just an OK beer that I was happy to drink, but probably won’t remember a couple of days from now.

Bought at the Blind Rabbit on Bay Area .. . Pours a medium copper, pretty nice head, lacing is good too .. . wow, when i had this yesterday, was pretty disappointed, but tonight, after a couple of garbage lagers then an amazing smoke beer- a great palate changer and better with a broken in tongue .. . still is quite simple, light sap, sweet tree scrappings, and english hops .. . good for what it is but nothing at all mind blasting .. . ufc135 lets go! fucked streams suck. .. . . Whoa there, Dr. Feelgood, I work at a propane dealership, not Woodstock..

Noah makes the call… Tony makes the pitch… and Fritz knocks it out of the park right into the Stormcloud! This is THE IPA that I would recommend those not into all that hops to try in order to develop an appreciation for hoppy brews!! All it took was a Texas IPA to get my head wrapped around all this hoppy-deliciousness! I’ve now had the pleasure of trying this brew both from the bottle and from the tap right at the brewery on one of their tours! A topaz colored body with a good frothy head that dissipates somewhat quickly to a thin sheen and good lacing effects. Lots of citrusy hops as well as some sweet malts on the nose. Medium-bodied and extremely smooth brew with an awesomely clean finish that’s not too hoppy nor too sweet! Definitely one of the best IPAs this malt-head has tasted!!

Bottle [12oz] c/o Zeugil. Pours a slightly hazy orange-copper with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma of hops, a slight vegetal note, caramel malt and somewhat bready notes. Flavour of resiny hops and caramel malt, not much else. Average bitter finish. Average bodied. It’s just good, not great.

Bottle. Not big and hoppy enough for an American IPA, too light in body for a British IPA. It could fit as a boring American pale ale, though not a very smooth one. Not the worst beer, but not one to seek out.

Bottle during Worthington IPA Throwdown. Makes a little more sense now that I read the description. Not your typical IPA: aroma had malt, coffee? and perfume. Light hops in the flavor plus some nice bitterness. Almost creamy too. Interesting take on the style.
