During a fierce storm on his voyage across the ocean, William Rahr could be heard yelling from the tall masted ship: "Roll on old sea! And when you are done, when the storm clouds have destroyed themselves, we will still be standing and drinking!" Today, we have created the ultimate ale for a voyage such as this: A German-Style IPA - a traditional India Pale Ale with German Influence. Our German-Style IPA is brewed with a blend of all German malts, hops, and yeast. It has a rich maltiness with both floral and spicy hop characteristics. So get ready and hang on - Stormcloud will see you through your roughest seas and straight on to smooth sailing. Editors Note: This beer was reconfigured in 2009 with new hops and yeast.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours cloudy yellow with a lacing white head. Grapefruit and citrus fruity aroma. Flavour is sweet and light citrus/peach fruity. Vague malt base but the flavour seems sweet as such from the fruity accents. Nice and smooth with a little bitterness coming through. Ends with a solid biterness.

Bottled. A hazy golden beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma is sweet spicy combined with notes of elderberries. The flavor is sweet with notes of elderberries, leading to a dry bitter and fruity finish. The body is thin. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) KAggie97. Pours a slightly hazy golden with a creamy off-white head. Lightly sweet malt and citrus in the aroma.. Medium body, fruity and lightly perfumy with a distinct hop bitter finish. Drinkable indeed but not exactly a spectacular IPA. 220608

Bottle. Clear golden color, medium white head. Aroma of wet cereal. Taste is herbal and sweet. A miss for me.

A: The pour is a clear amber color with a moderate off-white head and some spotty lacing. S: The nose is rather mild with some sweet orange notes as well as a bit of sugar and light malt. T: The sweet, orangey sweetness is in the forefront with perhaps floral notes. Other than the rather "light" hoppiness, there are bready malt flavors and a touch of bitterness on the finish. M: The body is medium with a somewhat low carbonation and bit of a "flat" mouthfeel. D: This was not a very impressive example of an IPA. Lackluster flavors and aromas, and I wasnt a fan of the mouthfeel either.

Draft @ DFW. Deep amber colour with a thin head. The aroma tells me this is old school IPA, without a prominent hop signature. Moderate bitterness, some biscuity, caramelly malts, medium body, sweetish finish and no real brightness at any point. Not a bad beer, but a little dated.

Another ericandersnavy production. Pours light copper with a fluffy white head of large bubbles. Aromas of lightly roasted malt and spicey/grassy hop. Medium body with loosely frothy carbonation. Flavor is kind of like a bready hoppy pilsner. The grassiness renders it slightly astringent. Sort of demonstrates how beer styles can move together. Finishes bitter, and really enjoyable. Not a NW hop bomb, but its bitterly bitter, and that is what counts.

Bottle poured a clear reddish amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, earthiness and woody hops. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of carmel and earthiness with a smooth dry lightly bitter lingering earthy finish.

On tap at Texas Beerfest. Pours a cloudy amber with medium off white head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is pine and citrus. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet hop and rich malt flavor. Easy to drink, a good IPA from Rahr.
