Bottle:   Burnt caramel in color, thin sudsy off-white head, spotty lacing.   Strong biscuity nose, malty, very pale caramel.   Heavy biscuity flavors on the tongue, malty, slight cereal.   Has a slight peat aspect to it as well.   Backside is mealy and biscuity.   This is one malt oriented brew!   Very much a solid example of an English Strong Ale.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Having had the barrel aged version I can say that I prefer that one, however this one reveals more of the underlying flavors that were a bit subtle in that other version.   The 8% ABV is well hidden.   Comes across to me as a solid example of a nice malty/mealy/peaty English type Strong Ale.   Good stuff!   Thanks Bill for the bottle! 12oz bottle from blutt59, thanks Bob! Pours a deep brown colored body with some amber highlights. Finger-width, dense and creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is malty and fruity sweet. A good amount of plums, dates, and raisins with a nice cocoa and caramel. Nutty with some very light spices and a hint of toast. Flavor is similar. Lots of plums and raisins with a solid caramel and cocoa maltiness. More spices than the aroma, a touch of roast, fruity esters, a light herbal hop, and a bit nutty before this finishes smooth and dries thanks to some spices and the light roasty bitterness. Nice, balancing fruity malts too. Lengthy aftertaste following a soft and smooth, medium-full body and a moderate, creamy carbonation. Overall, a nice beer. Well rounded with a pleasant fruity maltiness, some spices, and a touch of roast. Thanks to drowland for the share at the So Long Sea Bass Tasting. Pours dark red-brown with an off-white head. Nose is dark chocolate, cocoa, slight fruit, nuts, and an interesting background sweetness. Flavor is similar to the aroma with a lot of porter quality to this one. Bottle (dregs) … Tampa “Farewell to Sebletitje” Tasting… Hazy brown ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. The nose offers caramel and toasted nuts – almonds and pistachios. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and nearly expired carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty-sweet followed by mild acidity. Lengthy, lightly bitter finish. Bottle courtesy of drowland. Pours a hazy brown color with a light brown head. Aroma is honey, toast, caramel, brown sugar, fruit, roast, coffee, and a touch of floral hops. Flavor is honey, toast, chocolate, roast, some coffee, and a light brown sugar finish.

On tap at the Alamo Drafthouse Lakecreek and poured into a Trappist-style glass, this seemed somewhat misnamed as a winter warmer. It has little in common with the flat, fruitcake-ish tastes that you get from, say, Sammy Smith’s annual offering of the same name. Instead, it reeks of heavy roast aromas and flavors: molasses, dark chocolate, hints of espresso. When it’s poured it looks like a stout, something like guiness. The head isn’t as thick though. Very smooth and tastes very well. On tap at Petrol Station. Pours dark brown to black with an offf-white head. Nose is spices - allspice and nutmeg. Taste is coffee, spices and roast malt. Mouthfeel is medium, slightly chalky and dry. While good in small quantities, it was hard to finish a whole pint.
