12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium rapidly dissipating light beige head, over a clear brown (SRM 23) body......nose is roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, also plum raisin notes, vanilla, light hop spice, balance slightly to the hops.....taste mild toffee/caramel type sweetness, moderate roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, becoming lingering hop bitter with mild roasted malt bitterness, light fruit notes of plum, raisin, vanilla light tobacco, balanced between malts and hops......mouth feel, medium body, alcohol heat present, carbonation high with a near creamy mouthful. The roasted malt tones and the bittering from the hops dominate the taste. The caramel malts and fruit notes are present but somewhat hidden. The beer could use more caramel/crystal malts and a slightly lower hop level as an English Strong Ale. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7

Pours a nice ruby red color. The second one with a really nice color tonight. Almost no head. This reminds me more of a scotch ale. Malt, yeast, bread, wheat aromas. Smooth with a slightly unpleasant metallic taste on the finish. Cant make out many more distinguishing characteristics in the flavors. Full bodied. Slight cola, caramel flavors towards the end.

Bottle, courtesy of bu11zeye. Pours a clear brown color with burgundy highlights and a medium, beige color. Aroma of caramel and chocolate with mild alcohol. The flavor has a rich presence of malt with nuts, caramel and chocolate. Its sweet but just enough. The body is medium with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. A pleasant beer to sip on a cold october evening.

12oz bottle from blutt59, thanks Bob! Pours a deep brown colored body with some amber highlights. Finger-width, dense and creamy, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing throughout. Aroma is malty and fruity sweet. A good amount of plums, dates, and raisins with a nice cocoa and caramel. Nutty with some very light spices and a hint of toast. Flavor is similar. Lots of plums and raisins with a solid caramel and cocoa maltiness. More spices than the aroma, a touch of roast, fruity esters, a light herbal hop, and a bit nutty before this finishes smooth and dries thanks to some spices and the light roasty bitterness. Nice, balancing fruity malts too. Lengthy aftertaste following a soft and smooth, medium-full body and a moderate, creamy carbonation. Overall, a nice beer. Well rounded with a pleasant fruity maltiness, some spices, and a touch of roast. Very enjoyable and I look forward to trying the BA version.

UPDATED: NOV 24, 2010 Re-Rate. Pours a deep murky brown with light tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, a bit nutty, light signs of dark fruit. Flavor is very much the same with a nice mellow alcohol spiciness. Mouth feel is medium-heavy body and just a tad watery, with medium carbonation. Overall, this is a pretty nice, well balanced brew!
