Good dark ale on a cold day. Not an everyday drink. Tasted better once the ale set and warmed up a little. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Originally rated on 1/30/09. Not much of a winetr warmer here, weak aroma, mouthfeel and flavor. Not offensive but not really good, rather bland and unexciting. Like suds said "like drinking dark malt michelob", that about sums it up.

Bottle. Aroma of sweet fruit, caramel and brown sugar. A bit more toffee in the flavor. Light roasted lingering finish. Pretty tasty

Keg at Ginger Man, Plano. Cloudy deep mahogany colour, creamy head. Looking delicious! Caramel nose with some caramelized sugar. Sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Creme Brulee with notes of pine and pears, soothing spun sugar. Toffee and pine in a mid bitter finish with some husk. Rich and harmonious, perhaps cut down a tad on the caramel? Or not. Its tasty as is.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium rapidly dissipating light beige head, over a clear brown (SRM 23) body......nose is roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, also plum raisin notes, vanilla, light hop spice, balance slightly to the hops.....taste mild toffee/caramel type sweetness, moderate roasted malts with cocoa, chocolate, becoming lingering hop bitter with mild roasted malt bitterness, light fruit notes of plum, raisin, vanilla light tobacco, balanced between malts and hops......mouth feel, medium body, alcohol heat present, carbonation high with a near creamy mouthful. The roasted malt tones and the bittering from the hops dominate the taste. The caramel malts and fruit notes are present but somewhat hidden. The beer could use more caramel/crystal malts and a slightly lower hop level as an English Strong Ale. BJCP 7/3/15/4/7

Tap at the source. Pours black. Small head. Aroma is caramel, fig, dark fruits. Flavor is fair fruit, fig, raisins, totally an English ale. Yea, I mean its an English style winter warmer. You should know the flavor of this before trying it. Oh, its fine

@ 45 deg F, cocoa dominates aroma with hints of toasted bread. Has a nice coffee-like bitterness, but it clashes with the up-front sweetness of the dark malt profile. Medium body. Goes down easy. Very solid beer.

Dark pour, finger of tan head. Nose is roasted malt. Bittersweet. Middle is coco and dark fruit. At the finish, "Someone got malt in my chocolate; someone got chocolate in my malt." Worth the effort.

From a 22 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with large head in a Lost Abbey chalice. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, amber malts, light bourbon. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of rich malts, milk chocolate, oak, light bourbon. Rich, flavorful, relatively easy drinking and not too big in alcohol.

Super dark brown, almost black with almost no head. Aroma of fruit and dark roast coffee. Flavor is similar, with a little alcohol and some coffe-like bitterness. Pretty good. On deck...the bourbon barrel aged variety.
