Tessic (1079) - Brantford, Ontario, - DEC 18, 2012
This stout poured pure used motor oil with a low down, septic looking head. Tan in colour with no lacing what-so-ever. Scents include smoke, dark cocoa, earth and licorice. First sip was thick and rich with heavy smoke flavour and added tastes of Melloid cough candies and soy sauce. finish is smoky burnt with a medium bitterness.

Pours black with a medium brown head. Aroma of coffee and pumpernickel. Taste is bittersweet with notes of coffee, ash, pumpernickel and dark chocolate. Soda-like carbonation gives this beer an unusual sharpness. Despite this it has a decent body and smooth, full flavour.

Can from LCBO in Oakville. Pours pitch black with a big VERY tan head. Smells of coffee, wood, and smoke. Taste is quite bitter up front that lasts right to the end. Light to medium bodied with flavors of coffee, dates, and nuts. Slight sweetness becomes more apparent as you drink it. Overall a fine stout that gets better as you drink it, revealing more flavour.

UPDATED: MAR 18, 2016 Pours dirty black, brown head. Smells slightly burnt with a hint of fruitiness. Body is somewhat thin, flavour is a bit harsh, some smokiness, slightly woody, not bad but rough edges.

Theres smoked.. and theres burnt. I think this carries a lot of burnt off flavours. Ive screwed up enough soups, and stocks to know the difference. Looks good, if not maybe a bit murkier in the pour than Id like. Some filtering would have been a good idea. Pours opaque black with a really nice looking chocolate rocky head. Flavours of coffee, chocolate, heavily toasted malt (read... BURNT)... not all burnt, but some of it was. For a beer of this magnitude.. the body is thin. Palate is interesting with a rounded hop and crusty pumpernickel angle. Theres even some lactic/Malic flavours kicking around. Modest cocoa notes. The underlying problem is the burnt aspect. I get it... Railway city.. Im from St. Thomas. Dry the malts over a fire...dont toss the burnt logs and coal into the wort. Its very ashy in the finish... like a burned marshmallow kind of thing. This beer could be very good.

Gluepot (533) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 17, 2016
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2016 An extra deep brown head on a dark brown body. Nose is coffee and chocolate. This is an odd one. I am immediately hit by a slightly sour bitterness, followed by chocolate, mild coffee, and a touch of cream. There are some other unusual stout tastes, including cooked vegetables, cola and ash. The body and texture are a bit on the thin side, but not bad.

Opaque jet black with thick chocolate brown head. Aroma is subdued I get some licorice and coffee. Flavor more coffee, some light caramel notes. Very smooth with a slick mouthfeel, finishs has a little sweetness that helps balance the roasted malts. Medium body, medium carbonation.

Can LCBO: black beer with tiny tan head. Nose is roasty malt, cocoa and a little espresso. Taste is similar with blueberry dark chocolate, earth and hops. Sticky mouthfeel with a dry end. Balanced. Nice work from the people at railway city.
