COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Iron Spike Blonde introduces itself with an antique gold colour accentuated with a generous white foam. Nose of honey, spicy, lemon zest and citric hops, some biscuit malt, a nice peach/tropical fruit profile as well. On the pallet the beer enters with a hint of sweet fruit upfront (peach, pear mostly), followed by lemon, some mild hops, and sweet grains. It has a floral aftertaste, similar to that of rose petals. Lots of pretty spider web lace left behind from the head, and good retention. Medium body with a sweet fruit finish, nicely balanced by moderate thoughtful hopping."

4.3 % alcohol by volume, IBUs 15.9

Draught sample in St. Thomas. Pours a golden yellow/ blonde white head, decent lacing. Aroma is of hops. Taste is also of hops and a little grassy. Not bad.

I tried this beer on November 10, 2010 after purchasing from the Queens Quay LCBO outlet in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a translucent red-hued golden colour with almost no head. A white ring and heavy effervescence persisted throughout. The aroma was milky sugar, grains, and floral hops. The flavour was grainy malt and some weak hoppy tones. An alright beer, but nothing spectacular.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pale golden pour. The nose is slightly grainy with loads of green apple. Acetaldehyde, DMS and little but flaws. Wow - this is truly awful.

1 pint bottle, Mulmur, ON, Canada. Pours gold with zero head. Sour aroma, slight carbonation and an off taste. Maybe the bottle, but this was sour with a slight hop finish.

500 ml bottle. Clear golden with a thick and dense foamy head with good retention. Aroma is sweet malt with honey, floral notes, berries and grapes. Flavor is grainy with sweet malt, fruits, yeast and floral notes, there is also a bit of smoken and wooden notes. Thin body and mouthfeel is on the watery side.

Clear orangey pour with a nice robust head. Aroma has a - and I hate to use this term - wet cardboard whiff on top of some maltiness. Not a nice scent and one that colours the initial impression. Taste is full of maltiness and a slight peach-like bite. Disconcerting at first, but not too bad. Goes down fairly smoothly considering the heavy carbonation. Interesting, not unpleasant and certainly something a bit different.

Appearance: Slightly hazy orange with a medium snow white head. Aroma: Lots of caramel and grass, some odd plasticness to it too with a good deal of grain notes. Flavour: Caramel again with damp cardboard, lots of carbonation, a tiny amount of honey and an afterthought of hops. Not enjoyable.
