Cask at JDW in Surbiton. Dark in colour, rich in taste, mainly maly, hint of chocolate and a satisfyingly full body. Enjoyable. DruncanVeasey (8603) - Nr NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2014
Cask, The Baron, 23/02/14. Chestnut necked with dense-lacing off white. Nose aniseed, hazelnut and lactic hints; chestnut, black cherry. Huge pillowy malt character after a week on US keg ; chocolate praline and soft marshmallow; aniseed sprinkles, delicately flamed, cocoa-dusted oak. Deep and satisfying. It takes some time away to emphasise just how hugely this kind of brew gets taken for granted and consequently underrated in England. No pronounced non-malt flavours detectable but god it’s good. Bog standard bitter but better. Makes me feel like a reactionary happy old fart sat on a leatherette settee in downtown Hinckley, LE10, which is precisely where I am tonight.
