22oz bottle Batch 11 12/14/12 (Whole Foods)-AUS Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of smoke and more smoke. Taste of smoke, chocolate, and malt. This medium bodied brew is more smoke than porter but is still tasty. crajun (1257) - , Texas, USA - NOV 23, 2012
nice aroma; wood or smoke combined with toastedness and chocolate. dark cola pour. palate was thinner than I expected? Taste was toward bitter side a combination of the coffee and slight hops. will try again.. BelgianBeerGal (4122) - Panama City, Florida, USA - NOV 21, 2012
Bottled at a Scardello tasting. Very big and bold smoked beer. Great porter base beer with notes of semi-bitter chocolate and coffee. The smoke is nice and not overpowering. I couldn’t tell you it was definitely mesquite but it reminded me of BBQ. well done. GODiSSOUTHERN (390) - Virginia, USA - NOV 11, 2012
Nice porter. Dry, chocolate, good maltiness. The mesquite is interesting but not overwhelming. egajdzis (6675) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 30, 2012
Nearly opaque dark brown with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, burnt wood, smoke, some cocoa, and smokey meat. Taste of roasted malts, smoked malt, spicy mesquite wood, cocoa, and light vanilla bean. Dry finish.

Pours thick dark coffee black in color with a big creamy cocoa head. The aroma brings smoked barbecue sweetness really smooth in the nose. The body is quite creamy but lighter. Flavors bring smoked malts with a peppery ending from the mesquite wood or the hops, not sure. It is definitely present though. dyetube (1378) - Hurst, Texas, USA - OCT 25, 2012
Bottle from Choice Beverages in McKinney. Pours black with a thin tan head. The aromas are mesquite, smoked ham, pepper, and roasted coffee. The mouthfeel is slightly watery and dry with a medium body, heavy bitterness and light carbonation. Excellent beer. Cheers! stephenj007 (124) - Houston, Texas, USA - OCT 25, 2012
Well....enjoyed with some triscuits and crumbled blue cheese as the label suggested....Poured a big, root-beer head, which dissipated too soon. One of the darkest Porters I have seen in awhile too.
This brew is much closer to a Rauchbier style in my initial opinion.
Aromas of smoke (imagine that!), western wear store leather ( I am not kidding!), malts that are definitely mesquite roasted, and some molasses and turinado sugar.
Texas campfire smoke tastes are the most noticeable up front.
Yes, a Texas campfire is different from all others too.
No hops presence at all.....all dark, sweet, lager, smoky action happening here.
For such a smoky, heavy brew, the mouthfeel and wash is quite awesome...no linger, no mess-around...just all that good smoke.
Ok friends....so overall I think this is a great "In Yo Face" Texas brew...Go big or go home style....It’s a Texas brew and I like it generally. Not a Porter style in my book, but solid.

This beer smells like bbq and burning leaves. Very autumnal. Pours dark brown, almost black, with very small head and little lacing. Smooth, tongue-coating mouthfeel with little bitterness. Chocolate, smoke, leather, beef jerky. I wish I had a chopped sandwich with this beer sjohnny (657) - - SEP 19, 2012
Too smokey (and I like smokey). Seems like they were trying too hard to make a point. No other body or good porter flavor. I tried to like this and it was just not good.
