This was our third installment of the Texas beer roundup I had yesterday in my dining room with UDBeernut. Batch 007 11.9.11. Semi-buzzed rambling to the brewery over a discussion that I realy need to get me one of them there smart phones. My folks were up visiting as well this weekend. Ma stated that this "is like liquid smoked cheese...great cheese" as she reached for the bomber and helped herself. Go Ma! Tingle on the gums biting. Slate black with brown tone. Oily head. Spectacular lacing. Smokey gentle nose. Spectacularly rounded and robust in body. I get light pepper nearing the finish. Other than that this silky smooth beer was clearly the leader of the day. a Solid, benchmark porter. Yeah! kevinator (2597) - The Colony, Texas, USA - MAY 27, 2012
My first impression was based upon the mug full of foam, which wasn’t that big of a deal. It only meant it would take a while before I could drink it and this happened with every pour. The smell was predominantly malt with a small hint of smokiness. The mesquite smoke was much more prevalent in the mouth, however. Nothing spectacular about the palate but the color was cool in that I couldn’t see light pass through. Overall, a pleasant beer I would try again albeit not my favorite for this style. Deep brown with some tan head. Nose of smoke, some roast, and chocolate. Lots of mesquite wood and smoke in the flavor - most roast and some dark fruit. Great BBQ brew. kp (10881) - Woodstock, Georgia, USA - MAY 20, 2012

Very dark pour, toffee colored head. Dark malt and smoke in the nose, hint of leather. Medium sweet and a little salty through the middle. Chocolate and smoked cherries at the backside. The finish is carbonated, creamy, and cut short with a whack of mesquite smoke. What a fun beer...this should go with food but I do not know what yet...probably mole, or Tejas smoked BBQ!

Bottle from Spec's. Pours mahogany with a khaki head. Smells of mesquite and pecans. Tastes of smoked mesquite in the front of the palate followed by leather an cocoa. Interesting take on the style. Errl (2442) - Plano, Texas, USA - APR 8, 2012

quite tasty. There’s a spiciness to the smoke-gives some tingle to it as if it has some peppers in there. chocolate, roasty coffee goodness. kerenmk (5038) - Tel Aviv, ISRAEL - APR 7, 2012
Bottle, birthday present from beerandbeyond. Big foamy tan head above opaque dark brown body. Sweet, nutty, delicate smoke and a little grass-hop aroma, wooden, smoky, bitter, hickory and a little bittersweet chocolate taste. Heavy body, fizzy, a little malty finish. Good. fata2683 (2176) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - MAR 21, 2012
bottle, pours black with a thick and very tall tan head. Aroma is obvious smoke, roast, wet wood, leather. Flavor is nice and semi-sweet cocoa upfront with big dry roast and smoke ending with a very dry mouthfeel. I really like this stuff.
