3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
On tap at the Houston Flying Saucer. Solid black and cloudy with a bubbly medium-tan head and some nice lacing. The nose is a little smoky with light meaty tones alongside chocolate. Flavor opens with sweet caramel and chocolate, then shifts into a sort of porky smokiness. Medium-sweet overall with a solid body. The mesquite is definitely an interesting change of pace from normal smoked beers, and it works very well with this malt profile. Definitely not too smoky or bacony - this seems to be a fine-tuned recipe.
Murky brown in color... Aroma of smoked malts, mesquite, briquettes... Flavor is fairly thin, lots of smoked malt notes, but overall underwhelming...

Tasted from bottle. Pours black with huge beige head. Too much carbonation in the bottle had. Aroma is dark chocolate, bacon, campfire. Taste is mild to moderate sweetness with similar bitterness. Nice smokey flavor. Smoked wood, bacon and cured meats, coffee, caramel and dark chocolate flavors. Very nice smoked porter.

I do alot of cooking out on my grill and smoker with mesquite so I had to get this one for a try. Pours up a black brew with a really nice tan head that holds for a very long time. Smells of mild smoke with some chocolate malts. Taste is typical of a good porter with a subtle mesquite smoked flavor that sets this porter over the top. It is everything that I had hoped it would be and I would say max scores all around but there is the price issue. This one is out of the everyday buy due to the high price tag so points deducted on overall due to cost alone. Other than price this is on my list of best brews ever.

Bottle at DC Epic Sour Tasting 2014. Very dark maroon color, brown head. Nice aroma of burnt embers, smores dropped in campfires. Taste is rich, roasty with charred edges. Tasty. fluffy (2472) - St Petersburg, Florida, USA - AUG 18, 2014
honestly dont remember much about this one, just that it was decent on the smoke. ZacM612 (738) - San Antonio, Texas, USA - JUL 15, 2014
Deep dark brown, with tan head. Mesquite smoky aroma. Sounds weird in a beer, but surprisingly good. Flavor is a mix of chocolate, coffee, and BBQ smoke.
