This vintage ale undergoes a 3 hour boil to create a complex layer of malt character including caramel, toffee, ripe fruit, and leather. The floral and earth-toned Kent Goldings hops add a soft background of spice giving depth to the malt flavors and providing an overall balance. It has been aged for 6 months in oak barrels to allow time for this big beer to mature and mellow. At 10% ABV, it’s made to be laid down like a fine wine. If stored properly this barleywine should keep well for upwards of 10 years. Drink one now, save more for later!

Bright amber hazey color, date on bottle 10/10/12. Enjoyed 5/18/14 Smells of nutmeg, orange peel/citrus. First flavor is strong smokey oak and mellow malts. Has a subtle bitterness that balances the sweetness. (Refreshing citrus oak perfect bitterness amazing! )

This beer pours a cloudy orange color with a medium fizzy off-white head that dissipates steadily to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, caramel and fruit. Medium to full body with flavors of tropical fruits, caramel malt and oaky tannins. The finish is malty with lingering fruity esters in the aftertaste. Interesting beer overall that I initially thought was a strong Saison of some sort. Decent overall.

Waxed bottle from Bu11zeye. Pours hazy orange with a 3 finger creamy off-white or beige head. Aroma is amazing fruit and oak. Full bodied - possibly due to the strong carbonation. Not sparkling - just a lot. Flavor is toffee, light stone fruit, lots of oak/wood, and something like barnyard/leather. Like a light touch of brett. This was bottled 10-8-12. One can only imagine what it will be like in the future. Good stuff indeed.

Tasted in 11/2012 (Backlog). Hazy amber orange with a large off-white head. Aroma is slightly tart like sour wine, plum, oak. Taste is tart as well, with notes of vinegar, yeast, raisin. Possibly infected?

Bottle thanks to Tim. Pours dark orange with off white head. Nose and taste of ripe fruit, caramel, toffee, earthy citrus and old citrus peel. Medium body. A touch over carbonated. Might have a slight infection, but still good. Hoppy. Medium body.

5000 (6900) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - AUG 11, 2013
Bottle:   Muddy amber, thick, dirty, moderate frothy off-white head, nice lacing.   Sweet pine and citrus nose.   Otherwise soft caramel and fruity notes, very soft.   Airy and citrusy on the tongue, powdered sugar sweetness.   Not as much malt as I would have liked.   Seems moreso simply a big Red or Amber.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   As it warms a bit more caramel fruitiness comes out on the backside.   Strong citrus notes, pith and peel, with some pine.   A bit more caramel on the nose, candied citrus peel.   While not overly bitter, it doesn’t deliver as much malt as I would like.   It however, has a decent amount of sweetness given that its not overly bitter.   Respectable at least.   Thanks Bill!
