Bottle:   Dark straw, orangish, dirty and hazy, moderate foamy off-white head, clingy lacing.   Woody nose, a little tropical, make that a lot tropical.   Otherwise it seems citrusy and coconut like.   Very woody and mealy up front.   While the aroma is rather nice, it comes across a bit more meek and deflated.   On the tongue its very woody, oakish, but without all the fruity nuance.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate, a bit bubbley, not at all rich like I was expecting for the style.   The maltiness and body weren’t there.   Finishes quick, strong oak lingers.   The nose lead on that this would be a wonderful fruity type woody aged beer, but the fruitiness never materialized and I was left with some plain ole beer that sat on oak.   Not bad, but damn... I wished that nose had delivered in flavor and body.   Thanks Bill for this one! drowland (8895) - Georgia, USA - SEP 15, 2012
9/15/12. 12oz bottle with big thanks to Walt! Very hazy orange pour with a small but lasting khaki head that laces a teensy bit. Spicy, malty aroma with oak, citrus, definite lemon, plenty of sourness, some cream, and touches of caramel - when I first got a whiff of this, I thought it was a sour/wild ale at first... probably some infection growing in there from the barrels? Malty, bitter flavor up front with hop character, plenty of oak, spicy rye for sure, and more of that lingering lemon sourness (though less prevalent in the flavor because of the maltiness and bitterness). Not bad, but we may have an awesome sour on our hands in a couple of years. Cheers! brokensail (16609) - Dublin, California, USA - SEP 4, 2012
Pours a bright copper color with a finger of white head. Nose opens with caramel and toffee with lots of oak and vanilla. Hint of orange and lemon peels with just a light spiciness. Some toasted bread in the background. The flavor has a light bitterness along with a strong wood note. Touches of vanilla, citrus peel hops, and a decent malt sweetness to it. Overall, not bad, just sort of okay. jhamp9 (1923) - Corinth, Texas, USA - AUG 28, 2012

Bottle-purchased in Austin TX June 2012-pours lightly hazy apricot hue with a small sudsy white head eround the rim of the glass that lasted the whole time. nose is cool-wood, oak, lite peaches, lite bright grape note, but the oak really shines through here. at first i thought it was a bit odd but i have grown to like it over the course of the beer. flavors exhibit the big oak flavors with a very pronounced resinous bitterness with lite leafy/tobacco character. lots of pine/resin hop flavors with the woody undertones from both the oak and hop flavors. unique and cool brew here glad i picked up a couple of these in Austin. For some reason, i was thinking this was going to be a sour beer. j12601 (12982) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - AUG 8, 2012
