not my kinda thing, but i could see how someone who loves both hops and malty backbone would like it. SHIG (4962) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - APR 19, 2016
Draft: Poured a black with tan colored head. Aroma is strong rugged hops. Taste hops stinging astringent and dark malt backbone. DocJitsu (1991) - Pensacola, Florida, USA - JUL 30, 2015
Pours a dark red-brown with a nice, smooth, tan head. Competing dark malt and hoppy nose. The flavors are disappointing given the nose. Fainter dark roast, a little coffee and a honeydew melon. hopscotch (11159) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 16, 2014
Draft... Pours deeply black with a mid-sized, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. Holding my glass up to the strong Florida sunshine reveals nothing more. It’s just black. There are singed malts and a modest measure of lupulin in the nose. Too restrained, but at least I’m not picking up the dank, bong water-like notes normally attached to this style of beer like a conjoined twin. Full-bodied with a super creamy mouthfeel and modest carbonation. The flavor offers burnt malts, pine resin and loads of grapefruit rind. Finishes burnt and fairly bitter. This is really good. It’s a style I normally detest. burg326 (5488) - Florida, USA - JUN 30, 2014
Poured a brown almost black color with aromas of citrus and coffee. Flavors match the aromas a solid black ipa and enjoyable.

Near black pour with light tan head. Aroma is roast malt. Taste is a bitter version of the nose. tricyclist (1125) - Florida, USA - MAY 21, 2014
As far as black ipa’s go, it’s pretty decent. It’s fully roasted with a zesty nose. The pour is deep and dark with a full khaki head. Tastes of roasted coffee and medi bitter hops, yet still refreshing. Ferris (15901) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - MAY 5, 2014
Draft - Roasted malts with a hoppy bite. Jet black with a rich beige head. Chocolate and a hoppy bitterness with a long hoppy bitter finish. Not bad, but a bit too much roast for me. gnoff (10707) - Mölndal, SWEDEN - JAN 21, 2014
Sampled draught as part of a flight at the brewpub on January 19, 2014.GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 29, 2013
Very dark brown to black color, light brown head. Fresh, hoppy, malty, bitter taste. Roasted aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium high bitterness. Roasted scent.
Tap at Rapp. Pours a clear deep red with nice whiter foam. Nose is herbal, tar, pine, hazelnut coffee, dense. Taste is hazelnut, pine, walnut, brazil nut. More of a well hopped hazelnut brown ale, though the pine needle content could make this pass for Black IPA. Impressed.
