Roggenberry is Arcadia’s melding of two classic European traditions, reinterpreted into an innovative American combination. Namely, we add the unique spiciness of malted rye to a traditional ale base, then we pile on hundreds of pounds of Michigan blueberries. The rye rounds out and builds up the malt character while adding those gentle spice aromatics, picking up piney hops along the way. Michigan blueberries bring a bright purple-pink hue, their fresh fruity aromas, and a slight tartness to quench and refresh. Once the whole package is assembled, expect a lean body, fluffy off-white-pink head, and a touch of haze. Arcadia’s house yeast adds points to the corners of the flavor and aroma, with more notes of fruit and spice. Truly a unique work of the brewer’s art, a melding of new and old traditions into something just a bit off-center.
