Served at BJ's winter warmer fest, 2002 bottle. Body is murky medium amber, dense particles of all sizes, bottle conditioned. Aroma is moderately malty (cookie), with notes of nutmeg, orange, and apricot. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - JAN 20, 2003
Cloudy orange with a bunch of small floaties swirling about. Curious mix of flavors, such as pepper, metal, ginger, citrus, sourness, bitterness and sweetness. High carbonation. Seemed acidic. Big bitterness with a dryish finish; some lingering bitter flavors. bubslang (438) - Kentwood, Michigan, USA - JAN 10, 2003
nice amber color with alarge slowly dissipating off-white head. nice spice aroma. nice sweet malty taste with hints of nutmeg, coriander and other spices, with a slight bitter hop finish. an enjoyable brew MOboy (504) - Kansas City, Missouri, USA - JAN 9, 2003
Quite a disappointment. HUGE head that made me think it was infected. No off flavours but no good ones either. leaparsons (10657) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 7, 2003
A herbal/earthy flavoured beer with medicinal notes (not unpleasant, mind). Touches of licourice, too. Ends with a dry, smokey peat finish. Worth a go.

This kept its head far longer than Mary Queen of Scots did.Like a lot of bottle conditioned beers it had a slightly acid taste that detracted from the deep fruitiness which made it a fairly pleasant drink. There was a suggestion of other more subtle tastes but they were not strong enough to distract from this bitter edge. jbak (111) - Torrington, Connecticut, USA - DEC 31, 2002
Very large white fluffy head that lasts forever, this takes a while to pour. A mild sweet aroma with a hint of bitterness. Malty flavor that ends with a nice spicy aftertaste. Quite enjoyable but I doubt I'd buy this again. Wiseblood (700) - Clarksville, Tennessee, USA - DEC 27, 2002
Enormously foamy head. Be prepared to wait for a while. Afterwards, be ready for a dry fruity taste with a sharp bitterness in the finish. The sweetness isn't overpowering and gives a nice balance to the spicyness also found in this one. I.C.suds (189) - Da U.P. eh?, Michigan, USA - DEC 26, 2002
I had this beer on Christmas. Excellent example of English brewing. Completely unique but well within the style. Fruit/spice was mellowed by the rich malt sweetness and an unbelieveable yeasty/hoppy finish. If you mixed Old Peculier with Hen's Tooth you might get this. Spicy, dry, not too sweet for me (but we'll see as it warms), nice earthiness to this one. Quite strong alcohol presence, which I normally like far less than in here. Hmmm...it's starting to get really nutmeggy around here!
