Bottle. Very aromatical beer with spicy palate and rich taste and color. Christmas time! Bill Becker (1041) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - APR 8, 2015
Nice pour. Plenty of foam sitting on a medium gold brew. The foam ain’t going anywhere soon but what’s shrinking leaves lacing behind.
The smell is festive; spicy with some cinnamon, a bit of clove, and fruity ..cherry like flavour when I swish the beer in my mouth, dark fruit when I don’t swish.
Medium body with lightish carbonation.
This is delicious. jbak (111) - Torrington, Connecticut, USA - DEC 31, 2002
Very large white fluffy head that lasts forever, this takes a while to pour. A mild sweet aroma with a hint of bitterness. Malty flavor that ends with a nice spicy aftertaste. Quite enjoyable but I doubt I’d buy this again. mixamatt (427) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUL 20, 2003
Mild malty caramel aroma.Amber red appearance with a firm rocky head.Mild fruity flavors of strawberries, cherries oranges and bananas.Very mild hops followed with a lingering slightly sour, fruity finish. SilkTork (5738) - Southampton, United Kingdom, Hampshire, ENGLAND - AUG 20, 2004
Sept 2002. Bottle. We are now into 2002 and this ale has developed a bit since it was first introduced in 1998. It has a supreme spread of complex flavours firmly fixed into a solid if slightly sweet body. Wonderfully refreshing, especially considering the strength and the complexity. This doesn’t taste like a 6.0% ale at all. Very light and certainly very moreish. Plenty of spice notes including ginger, fennel and nutmeg, mixed with citric fruits, especially grapefruit, then balanced out with dark fruits and a hint of rum. An absolutely splendid beer, only spoiled by the over sweetness. [3.4]

Aug 2004: Bottle Conditioned. BBE Nov 05. This was part of a Christmas gift pack from my daughter, so I’ve already had this beer for 8 months, yet it still has 15 months to go. That’s impressive confidence for a British beer. And fully justified. The beer has enough body and is clean enough to hold the spice oils. Warming and interesting. Like subjecting your mouth to a Turkish massage. [3.7]
A cloudy bronze color with a thick creamy head and nice silky lacing. Nose of aforementioned spices along with apricots and fig, rich nutty malts. The flavor is sweet and floral with a meaty bouquet of an apple and pumpkin pie blend along with sweated shallots. Yeasty tang with a creamy vanilla & roasted sesame see oil finish. Very thorough spiced beer. Well thought out and tasty to boot! CampbellWilson (533) - SCOTLAND - OCT 9, 2005
Bottle from Sainsbury’s. Great spicy aroma with cinnamon and clove to the fore. Little bit of grapefruity hop. Slightly sweet in mouth with the spice still present. Well balanced finish with hop and appley fruit. beervana (781) - Libertyville, Illinois, USA - DEC 20, 2005
Sampled at a 2005 Christmas and Winter beer tasting at Delilah’s, Chicago, IL. 2003 vintage. Clear amber ale having a long-lasting large off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Nice caramel and sweet malt aroma. Medium bodied that starts with light sweet malt, spice and caramel flavors. Finishes with a light malt aftertaste. This is a good drinkable malty winter brew. UPDATED: APR 13, 2007 Bottle (500ml). Poured slightly hazy amber with a large lasting creamy-foamy white head. Incredibly funky aroma - I detect ginger, cloves, coriander, plenty of pungent UK hops, sweet malt, yeast. The taste is even more pungently spicy, the coriander and nutmeg are very strong, but this has a solid ESB backbone with some fruitiness and yeast - and I like it. Mouthfeel is astringent, creamy and lively - really nice stuff. DocLock (10702) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 1, 2006
Bottle from Super Saver. This one poured ruby coppery with medium off-white head. Aromas of caramel malts, hops, red fruits, and spices. The palate was complex, giving flavors of fruit, hops, tart citrus, and some spices. It stayed fruity and hoppy throughout, with more apparent spice obvertones as it warmed. I found this one to be outstanding, and I’ll be picking up more next week.
