LONG HAVE WE WANTED TO BREW TRIBUTE TO “1000M,” an epic Blonde Barleywine fashioned by the great brewers at the now-deceased Bitter End Brewery. A golden opportunity, and 8 years of pleading from our head cellarman Von J, have brought us full circle to this highly anticipated resurrection, 10 years to the very day of its first and only brew. 20°

Golden orange pour with a white head. Orange peel, grapefruit, and tea. Some pine, a bit of floral hops, and some sweet malt. Caramel, a touch of sugar, and maybe a touch of peach. The flavor is sweet up front with some sugar and peach. Tea, orange, and grapefruit hop notes. Lightly floral and some pine bitterness.

On tap. Pours with a clear yellow hued body with a medium sized white head. From appearance this could be a pilsner. Aromas are clearly not. Grassy, big toasty and biscuity malt character, medium ester, alcohol roundness. Flavors are of alcohol, medium estery, toasty and freshly baked bread malt and yeast notes, floral hop. Bone dry. Medium carbonation. Warming. Liked it.

Bottle:   Bright straw, sediment floating about, thin to moderate sudsy white head, spotty lacing.   Sweet pale breadiness, a touch of honey graham cracker and pale citrus bits on the nose.   Soft sweet bready malts up front, pale bready malts, not the whole wheat kind.   A touch of honey.   Low bitterness, hides the 9.3% ABV fairly well.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Soft warming bready finish.   Pretty simple, decent, but nothing as complex as I was hoping.   Tiz fairly clean tho.   Thanks Bill!

Bottle, cloudy orange color with no head, mostly a hoppy dried fruit flavor with light fruity aroma, finish is clean metallic

JStax (6505) - Devola/Marietta, Ohio, USA - JUL 26, 2013
12 ounce bottle thanks to errl. Poured into a brandy snifter. Hazy, lighter copper with a thin white, bubbly head of foam. Not much retention. Aroma is bready, estery, and spicy. Tastes pretty sweet and malt forward, but still has a big fruity, hop profile without much of the bitterness. The alcohol burn waits til it’s down your throat before kicking in. Not bad, but I think I waited too long to drink this one.

thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - MAY 22, 2013
(12oz bottle thanks to Dixonian) clear gold, soapy white bubbles. Nose is skunky, celery, can’t get past the UV skunking, american hops, grapefruit. Taste is vinous, brett, oak, grapes, wine, odd taste, something not right here.
