Dark brown pour, thin tan head. Nose is caramel and malt. Bittersweet. Middle is a little smoke, a little toffee, carmelized malt. Finish is plums, some walnuts, and a touch of wood. ABV is well concealed beneath the malt sweetness. gkeh (482) - Texas, USA - NOV 9, 2016
Deep mahogany pour with a very small tan head. Lovely looking beer. Aroma is caramel, toffee, some dark fruits. Nice. Super malt forward taste, caramel and toffee abound. Lovely beer. KevinReddirt (166) - Midland, Texas, USA - NOV 4, 2016
Bought at the nearby HEB in a 22 oz. bottle. Poured briskly into a 12 oz. glass beer stein. It has a nice dark amber appearance with a fairly thin head, little lacing later. In the first taste I detect malt and toffee and bread. Finishes with sweetness and a hint of spice. At 9.3% it is definitely impactful. Not bad but I much prefer Real Ale’s other bomber brews. baraciisch (3234) - California, USA - AUG 24, 2016
Bottle at brewery... Aroma of candied fruits, raisins, caramel, toffee, scotch malts... Flavor is fruity, yet peaty, lots of scotch malt notes, light stone fruit notes, gentle bitterness on finish... Really nice

651 ml. bottle. BBD Sept 27 2017. Pours a medium, well retained ivory head, with some lacing, over a very slightly hazy deep amber (SRM 13) body......nose is heavy toasted malts, with multiple dried fruit notes, including fig, raisin, mild toffee/caramel, hints of brown sugar, light pecan, minimal hops, no esters, balance to the malts......taste is sweet, with dried fruit tones, including fig, raisin, moderate toffee/caramel, no hops, no esters, balance to the malts......mouth feel, medium sticky body, moderate alcohol warmth, low carbonation. This is a pleasant attempt at the style. The malts are a bit higher in fruit notes than typical, with a slightly lower toffee/caramel character. A slight change in the malt bill would correct. It is an easy beer to drink if one is not offended by sweetness. BJCP 7/3/12/4/7 bytemesis (8375) - Sunnyvale, California, USA - MAR 15, 2016
Bottle. Pours hazy orange hazel, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma is malty, caramel, grass, Bready. Flavor is medium sweet, malty, hints of grass, toffee, dark breads, orange zest, light plus bitter. Medium body, some astringency. AndresTM (434) - Texas, USA - DEC 21, 2015
The Highlander (this aged in wine barrels, I believe) is one of the most scrumptious beasts in liquid form I’ve had, so I was excited to try this one. The nose is cereal, candied fruits, caramel, whole grain bread, dulce de leche, a bit of hay, and a very slightly smoky earthiness. Medium mouthfeel, slightly fizzy carbonation and of medium viscosity. The taste is moderately sweet and low cerealy bitter. It finishes cerealy and slightly dry. Good, but nowhere near as memorable as The Highlander Himself; it’s clear that whatever barrels they use to turn this into Him — man, those are some magic wooden contraptions. wombat23 (1417) - Texas, USA - DEC 13, 2015
Shared 22 oz. bottle. Deep amber with light beige head. Sweet malty aroma. Tastes of sweet malt, caramel, and booze. Alcohol-warming finish. A tad too sweet for me. darbeer75 (901) - Round Rock, Texas, USA - DEC 13, 2015
