COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mysterium Verum. Scots Gone Wild marks the initial offering from Real Ale Brewing Company in the world of sour beers. Real Heavy, our strong scotch ale, was aged for 6 months in American oak barrels, during which time it underwent a dramatic refermentation due to the presence of a very special cocktail of wild yeast and bacteria. The end result is a dry, cherry-pie sour, with a subtle oak character and a bold tartness. OG: 20˚P

kevinator (2176) - The Colony, Texas, USA - NOV 1, 2015
Aromas and Flavors of sour fruit, funk, oak and burnt caramel. A big distinction from the base beer. Complex with a nice dark burgundy color and a weighty palate with a slightly dry and puckering finish.

Sampled at Great American Beer Festival 9/24/15. Sour, light funky aroma with notes of cherry, caramel, toffee, oak, light earth and light yeast. Similar flavor, with a tart, puckering feel. Nicely done.

On tap at The Pour House. Red brown pour with a small off-white head. Aroma is grapey, vinous, wood, and caramel. Taste is woody, more wine, caramel, awkward sourness, and bad fruit. Sour finish.

Pours a dark reddish brown with ivory head. Funk, oak, and dark fruit on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with more funk. Somewhat one-dimensional.

Growler. Dark brown pour, minimal tan head, swishes with lace. Soured Scotch Ale, wtf? Reminds me of a good burgundy sour. Barrely smoothness reminiscent of a RR sour(!). Impressive.

Medium brown colored pour with a small bubbly off white head. Notes of vinegar, tart cherries, oak, vanilla, and brown sugar. Great mouthfeel.

Hand bottle:   Deep reddish caramel, thin sudsy off-white head little lacing.   Looks like an aged sour red brown.   Old and young cherries on the nose, sweet vinear, slight oak.   Similar tongue, slightly acidic.   As it warms a bit of raisin and dark pitted fruit come out.   Liking this more than I thought I would.   Dry, leaves my mouth watering.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Finishes like a young Goudenbond, slightly less eccentric.   Lingering sweet and dark pitted fruit like vinegar sourness.   Unexpectedly good.   Thanks for sharing Tex!

Tap at Zio Carlos. Pours a very murky reddish maroon color with very little carbonation. Aroma is wood, sour cherries, grapes and sweet candy. Flavor is dry, tart, sour berries and a light bitterness. Finishes sour. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
