COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mysterium Verum. Scots Gone Wild marks the initial offering from Real Ale Brewing Company in the world of sour beers. Real Heavy, our strong scotch ale, was aged for 6 months in American oak barrels, during which time it underwent a dramatic refermentation due to the presence of a very special cocktail of wild yeast and bacteria. The end result is a dry, cherry-pie sour, with a subtle oak character and a bold tartness. OG: 20˚P

tapefuzz (811) - Massachusetts, USA - SEP 29, 2017
500mL bottle. 2016. Pours mahogany-red with a small tan head. Aroma is cherry, vinegar, oak, and some sweet malt. Taste is sour cherry, lots of oak, raisins, toffee, some funk, peat, and earthy yeast. Sweet up front with a growing sour acidity that dissipates in the finish. Very dry. Medium body. Medium, fine carbonation. Crisp-ish mouthfeel - with a little bit of yeast funk keeping it from nailing the crispness. Too much wood. The interplay between sour and sweet is great, but the woody/peaty/earthy finish and lingering taste leaves a lot to be desired. Interesting if not as satisfying as I'd hoped.

Bottle. Cloudy reddish brown pour with a small off-white head. Quite sour but really nice, raisin, cherries, a touch funky, quite rich and a little boozy.

wombat23 (1759) - Texas, USA - MAR 11, 2017
Shared 500ml bottle. Pours clear amber with a light beige head. Aroma of tart cherries and dark berries. Taste is tart cherries, dark berries, oak, booze. Interesting. It’s certainly correctly classified as a sour, but you can definitely still taste the underlying scotch ale base - and it works rather well together. Excellent.

Aroma: lots of cherry and some tartness; Appearance: clear dark amber pour with thin white head that lingers; Taste: intensely sour with some caramel scotch ale in the background; interesting and different; Palate: heavy body with long, sour finish; Overall: good but better in small quantities. Will probably not get again but still enjoyed it.
