On tap at RealTail 2012. Pours a cloudy amber with a small frohty off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is brown sugar, vanilla, and whiskey. Medium mouthfeel with a strong caramel malt and fruit with whiskey a nice smooth finish. Really enjoyed this one, such a complex scotch ale from Real Ale. Ruddy brown brew - nose of toffee, caramel, and whiskey. Dark fruit, vanilla, wood, caramel flavors. Mora2000 (6158) - McKinney, Texas, USA - OCT 13, 2012
"This is Real Heavy aged for six months in whiskey barrels."
Thanks to Errl for sharing this growler.
The beer pours a reddish color with a white head. The aroma is full of oak character, with a lot of vanilla and maple notes coming through. I also get a lot of dark fruit, as well as some toffee and caramel notes from the base beer.
The flavor is nearly identical. You can tell this is a scotch ale from the amount of toffee and caramel notes, but what really comes through is the whiskey barrel aging. I get a good whiskey character, as well as some vanilla and alcohol.
Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

(growler thanks to errlski) rich amber, soapy tan bubbles. Nose of whiskey, vanilla, rich, caramel. Taste of raisin, caramel, light tartness that’s welcome, whiskey (not strong), complex, medium to light body, creamy. ansermadide (1526) - Kyle, Texas, USA - SEP 10, 2012
This treat has a very dull, dark and cloudy, muted and almost muddy medium-dark brown color that reminds me alot of a Roggenbier. Not much of a head, if any, on this, but appearance is the only time that this beer doesn’t impress.
In the mouth, this beast is smooth as a baby’s bottom, while at the same time packs a sweet, woody, and unmistakable whiskey/bourbon flavor. The alcohol is gently hidden by the powerful (yet smooth) bourbon presence that dominates the flavor.
Although dull on the eyes and a little flat in the mouth (which is fine by me… not sure this would have been as classy if well-carbonated), this beer rocked my world. It’s these types of releases from Real Ale that rally make me respect the brewers. bu11zeye (13215) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - SEP 10, 2012
