COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mysterium Verum. If you ever lay your eyes on these barrels, you’ll understand why we call this beer “Shipwrecked.” These barrels have been from Kentucky to Ireland and back, landing ultimately in Blanco, and the signs of travel show vividly on their surface. That being said, it’s the inside we are interested in! Our strong scotch ale, Real Heavy, was aged in these barrels for 6 months. An aroma of slightly tart, dark fruit, and hints of vanilla mark the nose. The flavor follows up with the classic scotch ale caramel malt flavor, dark fruit, and a sweetly subtle whiskey barrel character.

On tap at RealTail 2012. Pours a cloudy amber with a small frohty off white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is brown sugar, vanilla, and whiskey. Medium mouthfeel with a strong caramel malt and fruit with whiskey a nice smooth finish. Really enjoyed this one, such a complex scotch ale from Real Ale.

"This is Real Heavy aged for six months in whiskey barrels." Thanks to Errl for sharing this growler. The beer pours a reddish color with a white head. The aroma is full of oak character, with a lot of vanilla and maple notes coming through. I also get a lot of dark fruit, as well as some toffee and caramel notes from the base beer. The flavor is nearly identical. You can tell this is a scotch ale from the amount of toffee and caramel notes, but what really comes through is the whiskey barrel aging. I get a good whiskey character, as well as some vanilla and alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
