Nearly solid black in color, this is a full-flavored complex brew of roasted barley, sugar and a hint of honey. Once poured, the smoky aroma melds nicely with the creamy head for a beer drinking experience not for the timid. Brewed at Sudwerk for ReaperAle.

From tap at Pizza Port, San Clemente. Pours black with a creamy and light tan head. Mild butterish and slight spiced aroma with an underlying roasted malt presence. Light butterish and hardroasted malt flavour. Quite simple and solid brew. Mild acidic note into the finish from the roasted malt.

UPDATED: NOV 4, 2006 A dark brown, almost black beer with a red shine underneath a brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of roasted coffee, but also notes of roasted malt and chocolate. The flavor is a smooth coffee flavor with notes of roasted malt and bitter desert chocolate, combined with light notes of alcohol.

Bottle. Pours black color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity chocolate aroma. Fruity malty chocolate with some ADSL bitter skur flavor. Has a fruity roasted malty chocolate finish.

Bottled. Pitch black colour, not much head. Aroma is mild sour wood, lots of black and red currant as well as some mild fruityness. Flavour is sour fruits, red currant, some mild burnt wood, toffee and dark dry fruits. Also some mild cocoa and roasted notes. The slight sourness is quite strange, but otherwise a decent brew.

Draught at Stuffed Sandwich, San Gabriel. Pitch black with firm, creamy brownish head. Coffee aroma. Medium sweet with filling chocolatey malt flavour and soft mouthfeel. SAlty finish with good bitterness. Very drinkable, yet flavourful.

Bottle, somewhere during RBSG, July 2006 (but not at the Grand Tasting - can only assume some kind soul opened and shared it at some point). Almost black with just a slight ruby tinge. Quite roasty. Some chocolate and coffee. Not the biggest strong but quite tasty and surprisingly drinkable.

Black color; creamy head. Aroma of roasted malt, cheesy. Malty, round mouthfeel, with sweet liquorice and a good amount of roasted malt. Good.

Very dark brown. Quite the beany aroma. A little bitter on the palate. Cashews and Tim Horton's coffee. That's not a good thing.

Bottled 65cl @MC
Dark black-brown color, small beige-brown head. Blackcurrant, licorice, oak, medicinal aroma. A bit sour, some vinegar, licorice, some wood. Feels a bit infected. Lingering balsamico in the aftertaste.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2010 Not quite as black as death, but close. Carbonated tan head. Dry stout with a myriad of complex flavors. Some coffee, barley, roasted malts, cereal and a tiny hint of citrus. Rated 9/17/08
