3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: JUL 22, 2005 On tap at Hollingsheads. Dark pour with a decent tan head. Very easy drinking brew. Light roasted nose but the flavor is full and well rounded. Reminds me a little of a sugar cookie. Vanilla with some doughiness. Enough roasted malt to keep it from being cloying. Very good.
"a lot to take in here, but all the big sweet flavors work well, as they are more than balanced with a big hop presence as well. good beer from a solid brewery!" Beerdedone (3401) - Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 22, 2010
Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown with a off-white head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate and some earthy hops. Flavor was malty with caramel, chocolate, molasses and a touch of vanilla. GodOfThunder (1249) - Orlando, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2009
Get it right, JMFG, this was my beer! Pours an clear dark brown to black color with a thin head. Aromas of vanilla, caramel and more toasted grains. Flavors continue that route with creamy vanilla and a nice toast. Pretty good. JMFG (1587) - Florida, USA - FEB 16, 2009
Courtesy Beerlando. Dark brown color, thin off-white head. Light roasty aroma, very mild earthy hops. More hops on the taste, heavy roast on the finish. Very nice. Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - FEB 14, 2009
Pours a muddy, dark reddish brown color. A small, foamy, mocha milk shake head settles in to a thin, lasting layer. Micro-spot lacing coats the glass. The aroma shows like chocolate milk up front, quite lactic and vanilla laden, with notes of dark roast, burnt caramel, and earthy hops there for balance. Flavors are quite creamy and chocolaty, rich malts edging out the countering roasty bitterness. Medium-full bodied, balanced carbonation gives a silky feel to the tongue. This is tasty stuff.

Getting my notebook online. Bottle. Pours a ruby hued black. Cherry and cocoa on the nose. Flavors a little watered down. Flavors of chocolate, raisin. A good amount of carbonation. An OK beer. Ughsmash (7508) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 14, 2008
Bomber. Poured clear, deep brown with a well-retained, creamy cap of beige head. The aroma picked up sweet, toasted darker malts with caramel, pine, and herbal notes surrounding.. warmth brought out darker chocolate and molasses.. great uptake of cocoa powder at the end.. quite nice! The flavor primarily had caramel and semi-sweet chocolate with lesser molasses.. pine bitterness surrounded with light fruit skins.. almost refreshing at the finish.. tasty. Medium-plus bodied with a lightly chalky feel to it... brighter finish with lots of residual sugars and bitterness. This was very good. badbeer (434) - Iowa, USA - APR 30, 2008
Dark brown with red hues; off-white head with great retention and lacing. Smell was of old green vegetables, roasty, and some toffee. Bitter taste I recognize from a lot of black patent malt, hoppy flavors and bitterness still very much present. Low carbonation with less than medium body. I thought this might have withstood aging a bit better. Would be happy to try something from these guys again. DietPepsican (1591) - @ $13.99, Iowa, USA - APR 18, 2008
pours a brownish ruby with a thin dirty white head. Aroma is coffee and toffee. Flavor has a bit more toffee and coffee, just a touch of hops. Some notes of celery thrown in. Bitter finish. Thanks goes to badbeer for sharing this 2+ year old bottle. I’d say this would be better fresh. Numenor (871) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - MAR 27, 2008
Had this bottle for about two years... pretty sure it’s an ’06. Loved it the first time I tried it and had this bottle squirrled away for a random night. Got to love the pure black botdy with a very light off-white head. Aroma has some earthiness, peat, nuts and maybe some caramel. Tastes amazing, nice hop retention that I’d not expected. Dark fruits dominate, with a huge amounts of malts that balance the hops. Slightly coffeeish ending. Simply delightfull.
