Bottled. Near black in colour with a slight, off-white head. Big, black coffe and baileys aroma with some dark chocolate sweetness. Flavour had more of the same, with a dry finish. Good.

Wakefield Beer Festival 2016. Black stout with its vanilla notes dominating proceedings, and helping to subdue a clear strength. There’s lots of spice in its nose too.

Bottle, from minutemat-- thanks! Shared with thephantomhennes. Very dark brown, low light brown head. Smells like the milk left over from a bowl of Cocoa Puffs. For real! Lots of powdery cocoa with a vanilla sweetness and underlying yeast esters. Low bitterness. Nice sweet stout.

If I look out of the window I see a murky blackness with a twinkling of festivity and the lonely beam of a lighthouse, searching forlornly for lost souls. There’s a tar like wax hanging lightly over the surface with a thin, pestilence of promise slipping out of reach. Evocations of a life once lived but diminishing rapidly into the fog. Averting my gaze to within, a sense of calm inertia pervades. The Quavers, on the other hand were a mistake.

Bottle shared at Moncada, Friday 7th October 2016 Lovely aroma, however mmhhh... this is going to be too spicy yes it is too spicy, Ang’ thinks too sweet. Lots of chocolate and vanilla in the mouth, it’s got the potential to be a very good beer but spice overload with cinnamon in particular ruining matters. A7 A3 T6 P4 Ov13 3.3

Pours black color with a large beige head. Strong cocoa and roasted malts on the nose, loads of spices and some ash notes, faint honey on the background. Flavor is chocolaty, cocoa, vanilla, cardamom, some toasted malts and wood. Quite pleasant brew with a spicy kick.

On tap at Chippenham Beer Festival. Strong aroma of Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Dark with little head. Extremely chocolatey in flavor without being excessively sweet. Strangely light bodied. The star of the show.

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Inky black with a quickly disappearing tan head. It has a very rich milk chocolate and fruit salad sweets flavour with an oily mouthfeel and tropical fruit and more milk chocolate on the creamy finish. Unusual and pretty good.

From the internet. Watching Eden Lake with The Missus. Tarry with a slender beige mousse. Naughty naughty chocolate eclair, Young’s Double Chocolate, chocolate at the centre of a chocolate croissant, mostly chocolate aroma. Then black cherry, pear drop and banana esters. All dipped in chocolate. A proper sniffer. Chewy dark prune and cherry fruit, speculoos hot cocoa, chocolate fountain marshmallow flavour. And somehow not sickly despite all that. Raisins. Succulent. Did I mention chocolate?
