Dark red brown, poor beige head. Sweet malty aroma with some sweet-shop spice and grass. Complex and rather sweet dark/ stewed fruit malts (prunes, raisins, figs) and nuts with solid "tidying-up" bitterness that lingers to the finish. Hints of iodine there too: this is quite Welsh-tasting. Cockles, laverbread (seaweed) and black pudding would be a good match here. mkel07 (5847) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JUN 13, 2010
330ml bottle. Dark brown iced tea clolur with an even level layer of light misty foam that sits well in the glass and looks strong in the body. Rum and raisin like aroma that entices you to take a sip. Quite dry on the palate with a long smooth aftertaste. Jade (434) - AUSTRALIA - DEC 30, 2011
New batch; from bottle poured into trappist. Dark brown colour, opaque with a small biege head that dissipates almost immediately. Malty, somewhat oaky aroma. Strong bitter malt taste, hides the ABV well. Tart, quite nice. bridge (659) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - DEC 8, 2007
Poured a hazy toffee brown. A very sweet aroma with lots of caramel and strangely some blackcurrant. Quite strong on tasting, with the glands working overtime trying to process the sweetness. A full bodied beer that sort of reminded me of Salvator in both its strength and sweetness. voota (765) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 15, 2008
Pours ruby brown with a pretty dismal head. The aroma and flavour of this beer are so similar I’m going to write about them at the same time. Brown sugar, peach, brown sugar and alcohol, and brown sugar. Its pretty balanced, simple and sweet... and for some reason it works for me quite well. More so than their other beers anyway.

Pours ruddy brown with a small tan coloured head. Nose has sweet fruit, peach and apricot with brown sugar. Reminiscent of many aussie brewed belgian darks. Palate has sweetness early on before dark malts take charge to deliver a burnt tofee and bitter coffee-like finish with sweet malt lingering in the background. Interesting, has a little bit of everything. Don’t know how true it is to style though...enjoyable all the same. Davros (3132) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - NOV 6, 2009
Dark copper pour with a creamy off-white head.
Aroma shows lots of sweet caramel, but also quite a bit of hops, with lots of resin, mint, and earthy notes. Quite interesting!
Flavours are dominated by rich malt and soft alcohol. Lots of treacle, smoky peat and nutty notes, with little of the hops present in the aroma. Very rich, the alcohol if pretty full on.
Very thick chewy body, which suit the beer well. ChrisTurner (207) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - APR 13, 2007
Bottle -- Deep, deep red with initial active carbonation that soon dies away -- how odd. Next to no head and negligible lacing. Rich aroma of spice and malt with some smokiness. Warming alcohol with maltiness and rich fruitiness in the flavour.Nice bitterness. Conjures up visions of cheese and open fire places on cold winter nights! A nice drop. bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - APR 8, 2006
Medium size, off-white head on a deep ruby red body. Malt aroma and raisins. Initially a sharp bitter taste, then once past that a thick taste of dark fruits, warming alcohol and a touch of vegemite, not a drink for everyone but I like it. vanvenlo (1861) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - MAR 12, 2006
12 Mar 06 - Quite a nice deep fruit malt aroma. Dark brown-red colour, ordinary head and lacing. Strong spiritous malt hop flavour. Bitter spiritous malt hop finish.
