Draft at Old Fashioned. Slightly hazy orange-bronze body. Steady, creamy off-white head. Cool, crisp hop aroma. Fresh citrus, tropical fruit tones..everything from spearmint to island fruit, mango. Clean and toasty, pretty mild for an IIPA. IPA and a half. Some orange flavors in the finish, big smooth malt. Not mind blowing or extreme, just a solid beer. Growler. Poured clear medium golden with a looser-bubbled off-white head. The aroma picked up juicy grapefruit, pineapple, and orange hoppage over mostly pale maltage.. balance was really good. The flavor found grapefruit meat, pear, and soft pale maltage at the core.. more fruits and a touch of peppery alcohol on the tasty finish.. could’ve used just a little more carbonation. Lower carbonation (as mentioned) on the palate.. otherwise juicy and well-balanced.. decent feel and flow, but otherwise a really good brew. BDR (2534) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - MAR 29, 2010
Dark amber with creamy white head. Hazy. A nice, bitter hoppy aroma with faint malts. A sweet body with a caramelish flavor to the malt, but overriding citrus hops. scoobysnak (333) - Appleton, Wisconsin, USA - FEB 28, 2010
Excellent beer. Wasn’t expecting all too much but from the get go I was very impressed by this one. Smells like canned peaches or canned mandarin oranges. Impressive lacing and head that WILL NOT go away. Taste isn’t overly hoppy but very sweet and citrusy. A great beer from a little known brewery. On draught at the Red Eye brewpub near downtown Wausau, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-hazy dark golden amber brew with a thick off-white head that slowly dissipates to a cream top and excellent lacing. Aroma of citrus zest, grapefruit, peach, marzipan and a hint of caramel malt, Taste is medium to full bodied, with heavy red grapefruit an some caramel/munich dark malt flavors. Finish is smooth, semi-sweet. overly bitter with a citrus and a touch of caramel malt. A decent double IPA like the Red Eye Imperium except a touch or caramel malt. Definitely a tongue curler throughout without overpowering any caramel malt character.
