From a 500 ml bottle. Pours a cloudy mahogany with an ecru head. Nutty aroma. Flavors of coffee and nuts. Moderately bitter roast finish 3fourths (9358) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 8, 2016
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2016 From bottle it’s clear brown with a lasting tall head. Aroma seems tainted by American hops, making it smell of grapefruit, brined cherry, resin, marzipan, fruit cake, even cayenne powder. Medium bodied with light sweetness and moderate bitterness. Decent savoriness across the middle and into a lengthy finish, where more dusty bread crust notes emerge. It’s a shame that character is hidden in the nose, because the malt base seems sounds here. But it seems too affected by misplaced new world hops, which begin to take on a cedar shaving and pet pee odor. books_n_brews (162) - Baltimore-ish, Maryland, USA - MAY 14, 2016
Pours dark brown near to black, no head to speak of. Smells of toasted walnuts. Bit harshly bitter, not coffee but just lasting tongue miscues that won’t go away. I like darks but I’d pass on ever having this one again. altonbrownd (5897) - Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA - DEC 30, 2015
Big bottle at Snowbird. Nice brown body with tan head. Nose is toasty and malty. Quite nice. Flavour of malts too, roasted nuts and caramel and biscuit notes. Good one with dinner.

This one wasn’t for me. Pours dark brown, taste of dark malty flavors not hoppy or bitter. poisoneddwarf (2647) - Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA - APR 29, 2015
500 ml bottle. Smells a little old--caramel malt past its prime, perfume, cooked vegetables. Pours clear brown-orange with a dissipating beige head that falls into a ring of big-bubbly foam. Taste is a tad better; it’s bittersweet, roasty. I’m not getting any nuttiness in aroma or taste. Not good. I don’t see an expiration or born-on, but I would bet this is pretty old. deyholla (12307) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 1, 2015
Bottle thanks to Secret Santa! Pours a clear deep amber with a brown hue and a grayish brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a decent amount of nuttiness supported by grain and bread notes. Flavor begins starts with bread and nuttiness and has a slight growing sweetness through the finish. patrick767 (4197) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - JUN 2, 2014
bottle - Pours dark brown with a lingering tan head and lacing. It smells of toasted caramel malt and taste the same with minimal hops bitterness and a lingering toasted finish. It’s medium bodied, robust, and overall a good brown ale. bhensonb (15761) - Woodland, California, USA - MAY 24, 2014
Bottle from the Harris Street Utah state store. Pours brown with a slight beige/tan head. Aroma is nutty/spicy/malty. Med body. Flavor is lightly greasy nutty with some moderately dark roasty malt and spicy/grassy hop. Works very well. Nice.
