COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1982 Redhook was born in a converted transmission shop in the Ballard District outside of Seattle, WA. After 28 years of brewing, Redhook is paying homage to its roots by releasing Big Ballard Imperial IPA. Big Ballard has a rich, deep golden and a very assertive hop character that hits you in the nose before reaching your lips. The flavor and aroma are balanced with complex malty undertones. While it has a friendly side, make no mistake - Big Ballard is brewed for diehard IPA fans. Big Ballard pairs well with sausage, cured meats with ground mustard, spicy Mexican or Asian dishes, and barbeque . Available in the Western US year round in both 22 ounce bottles and on draught.

Nice amber pour with a thick cream colored head. Nose is bitter hops, very fresh florals, and pine. Not bad on the palate, flavor is faint bitter hops, florals, and a lineup finish. As it warms it gets really bitter.

Bottle from a grocery store in Portland, Oregon. Aroma is fruity hops, tropical fruits, grapefruit, malt, pine resin, orange, hint of caramel. Flavour is moderate sweet and above medium bitter. Body is medium. Mild for an IIPA with a definite malt presence, but I like the easy balance of this beer.

Sampled on 10/16/2010. Bottled on 5/6/10. This Imperial IPA pours a medium, orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Medium to large sized white foamy head. The aroma is orange, fruity, sweet and citrusy. A medium bodied Imperial IPA. The malts are fruity and sweet. With lots of orange and citrus. The hops are citrusy and grapefruity with a touch herbal. Good balance. Medium bitterness. A little bit of residual sweetness. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

The look is golden in color, white decent head, and clear. The smell is decent hops, pine, caramel, citrus, and ok. The taste is hops, pine, citrus, bitterness, and caramel.

Bright, clear copper color. Smallish white head but the beer has adequate carbonation to hold enough foam for your enjoyment. Leathery soot and dirt aroma. Mild body with a late onset hoppy bitterness. Lingering dry bitterness in the finish.

Amber in color with a decent sized off-white head. ARoma is of light grapefruit, orange, and malt. Taste is the same...nothing special, but not bad either.

Draft pour pint at Red Hook. Clear golden pour with a quick fade head. Aroma matches the hop filled air as I drive by Red Hook every morning on my daily commute. Bitter hops up front and throughout. A little earthy. Pretty easy drinking, but not too clean. Tastes strong. Alright imperial here.

maxwelldeux (4433) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - JUN 10, 2014
Draught at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a very small white head on it. Nose is quite hoppy, with floral and resin notes dominating the smell, and seeming very bold. Taste is nicely bitter and feels thick, almost like you should chew it. Decent brew.

3.3
IrishBoy (4254) - Bakersfield, California, USA - FEB 11, 2011
Bomber from BevMo Salinas. Nose is citrus, floral, and lightly sweet caramel malt. Claer orange with a small beige head. Flavor is light bitterness, light sweetness, lightly spicy with a hint of bubblegum. Tastes better than the nose.
