COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In 1982 Redhook was born in a converted transmission shop in the Ballard District outside of Seattle, WA. After 28 years of brewing, Redhook is paying homage to its roots by releasing Big Ballard Imperial IPA. Big Ballard has a rich, deep golden and a very assertive hop character that hits you in the nose before reaching your lips. The flavor and aroma are balanced with complex malty undertones. While it has a friendly side, make no mistake - Big Ballard is brewed for diehard IPA fans. Big Ballard pairs well with sausage, cured meats with ground mustard, spicy Mexican or Asian dishes, and barbeque . Available in the Western US year round in both 22 ounce bottles and on draught.

1 PT. 6 Oz. Bottle. Pours somewhat clear and amber/orange in color. Citrus notes tingles the nose. The taste is a little different from most IPA’s but still quite refreshing.

manuchampions (1244) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 17, 2010
22oz bottle from BevMo in Pasadena. Pours a light amber with thick cream head that recedes to a thin ring. Aroma is crisp and bitter hops, very fresh and floral, some pine. Flavour is decent bitter hops, floral...but where is the malt? Finish is boozy and unrefined. Certainly hop forward but not as balanced as I would like. Decent.

kryon (3548) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - OCT 14, 2011
pours amber with medium to low head aromas of sweet fruits, fudge... taste is bitter in the beginning going over to more sweetness to end quite abrupt which makes the end taste quite watery. some bitternes left in the mouth afterwards. distinct maltyness a good beer that could use some more complexity

luttonm (6261) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 11, 2017
Bottle in Seattle. Creamy foam, dark clear amber gold body. Pretty strong resin and orange hop nose. Rich orange hop, pretty inviting and delicious. Smooth bodied IPA with some good orange and resin character underlying the sweet clean malt backing. Slightly simpler and smoother than an equilvalent small craft brewer but the flavors are rather terrific. Fairly tasty and enjoyable.

2010 Bottle - Thanks JohnGalt1!! - We closed out the night with this monster, as it should be...Pours a viscous clear orange with a large, frothy off white head...aroma is resiny, bitter hops, caramel and pine...flavour is similar, pithy, lingering bitterness, citrus peel tempered with some sticky malt...pretty not bad!

Nikiel (879) - Portland, Oregon, USA - JUN 27, 2010
A pretty standard imperial IPA. Good hop flavors and aromas, lower alcohol than some and it’s much harder to taste the alcohol here than in many beers with its abv. Slightly wattery for an iIPA.

bomber 5/31/10. clear golden orange with and off white head. it smells a little skunky. but, for the most part it is piney, pithy, orange, pale caramel and grassy. the flavor is the same... orange, resinous, pithy and definitely not sweet. crispy resinous texture is easy to put away. 7/3/7/3/15/3.5

thirdeye11 (6160) - Dallas, Texas, USA - AUG 6, 2010
(22oz bomber courtesy of mar) clear orange with creamy lasting white head. Nose of mango, grapefruit, pineapple and sweet biscuits. Taste of bitter grapefruit, quite spicy (probably from the alcohol), big alcohol detectable, with an oily slick finish that is hot and dry.

Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - OCT 23, 2010
orange gold pour with a thick head. aroma is citrusy, some pine as well and a sweet caramel maltiness. Body is a little light. Flavour is sourish maltiness, bready and a bit cardboardy. fruity citrusy hop. Hint of sticky alc lingering in the finish.

jgb9348 (6249) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAR 6, 2011
Rich thick copper coloured body with a dense, thick tan head. Aroma of strong pine and grapefruit, a lot of hops, some light earth and a bunch of sweet fruit smells. Full-bodied; Sharp pungent resiny and piney hop flavour with a good dense, thick malt kick that shows good balance and a lingering resiny flavour that goes a long way. Aftertaste is potent and strong with a biting hop character with a little earthy sweetness. Overall, a good and strong Imperial IPA with good characteristics that doesn’t overwhelm all senses and weigh too much from the alcohol in a big bottle. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased yesterday at Safeway in Des Moines (SeaTac), Washington [State] sampled at a B&B in Poi’pu (Kauai), Hawaii on 05-March-2011.
