On draft at the brewery. Dark brown pour, with a small light tan head. Roasty, malty, notes of chocolate, watery, and rather thin and boring. Drinkable, but not interesting.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours a very dark brown color with a very small tan head on it. Nose is very roasty, almost to the point of seeming entirely like a chilled coffee. Taste is also quite roasty and slightly bitter, but has a really pleasant hint of chocolate coming through. Really enjoyable beer.

Draft wob CAP HILL. SLIGHTLY roasty, chocolate, malty molasses aroma. Texture is slightly creamy, pronounced bitterness. Flavor is roasted coffee and black malt, bitter and drying on the tongue in the finish l. Alcohol is not noticeable, body is full throughout. Overall very enjoyable Sessionable dark ale.

tap at redhook brewpub, portsmouth. clear dark brown-reddish with a nice beige head, some retention. roasted and fruity notes, minerals, maple and dry grassy notes. average carbonation, light body, almost bland herbal finish. no flaws but a bland porter it is.

Nitro. Pours deep, dark brown with a thick pillow of creamy beige head; great retention and some lacing. Aroma is roasted malts, oats, earthy notes, light floral notes, and light toast. Flavor is roast malts forward with supporting earthy hops, dark fruit esters, and light woody notes; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Had a pint at the Redhook Brewery. A standard porter in color and taste, dark brown and medium, but was disappointed especially in the head: very thin, weak khaki. All in all, I thought it fell somewhat short of what a good porter should be.
