Some dark coffeish tones and hints of spice but its basically a cheap, watery porterlike liquid.

Nice black color with a deep roasted coffee aroma. Hints of burnt chocolate on the palate. Absolutely delicious.

Smoky aroma, which translates to an interesting burnt note on the tongue. Not a bad porter, but a little more thin than I usually like mine. This could maybe be a function of original gravity being lower than I like? Either way, there some nice chocolate flavors as well, and the finish is pretty smooth. Good as in above average.

Not a beer I will drive out of my way to obtain, but the Blackhook should be one of Redhooks frontliners! Its dark stout color rewards you with a clean, hoppy, rich winter-beer flavour. I prefer Widmer Brothers Winter Nakt, but the Blackhook has a nice dry flavour that is palatable pint after pint.

BillKismet (3919) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 21, 2002
Faint roasted malt and coffee aroma in this black amber colored porter. This porter has a robust roasted malt presence with a little more than necessary bitter dryness left on the palate. Overall, quite a solid and drinkable porter.

Delbomber (387) - Philadelphia, USA - NOV 30, 2001
Bold coffee and hops aroma, accented by cinnamon, with a black, opaque body and thin head. Disappointingly watery, the dumbed-down flavor is predominantly black coffee, perhaps some powedered sugar and cinnamon. Aftertaste includes a lingering bitteriness on the back of the tongue with a hint of vanilla.

Dark, dark brown, almost black. Roasty/malty aroma with complimenting flavor. Much lighter mouthfeel than it looked like it would have. Overall quite good, roasty taste with some coffee undertones.

THE BEER BARON (275) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 20, 2001
Very good. I love dark, chocolaty beers and this beer fits nice into those two areas.

A good solid porter, not too hoppy for the style like a lot of NW ales.
